OEM Remotes Not Working

A couple months ago my keyless entry stopped working on my 2004 4Runner. I'm pretty sure it is the receiver in the truck and not the remotes. Both of the remotes stopped working at the same time. Before they both stopped working fully, they worked intermittently and at progressively smaller ranges. Then one day they just stopped entirely!

I'd like to look at the receiver in the truck to see if there is a lose connection. However I don't know where the receiver is. Can someone tell me where I can locate it?

Also, given the symptoms is there anything else I should look at? Thanks!

Pretty sure its on the dashboard. I want to say right behind the cluster (on top, near where the dash meets with the windshield), but I'm no where near my truck (about 3600 miles away..............) Anyway, I could be wrong. In my brother's RAV4, that is where it is, as well as my parents Lexus cars.

Could it be that they got "de-programmed"? I don't ever remember seeing that the body receiver didn't work.............

I attached the wiring diagram from my 2003 LTD. It looks like the receiver is in the T5 theft deterant ECU. I've attached the location from the document.
Look at page 39 of the parts PDF for the theft ECU T5.

Have you tried replacing the batteries in the RKEs?

X2. The symptoms sound exactly like batteries. Do you use both RKEs often? (I tend to use one exclusively, with the second as backup.)
If they're both used about the same amount and neither battery has ever been replaced, they could theoretically both die at the same time.

Looks like I need a Jump to Conclusions Mat.

I didn't believe it could possibly be the remotes because one is rarely used and the other one is used often. So when both crapped out at the exact same time with the same symptoms I thought it had to be the receiver in the truck. My wife drives the 4Runner all the time and the day she said "My remote doesn't work anymore" is the exact day my remote stopped working. So I jumped to the conclusion it was the receiver.

I was about to tear into the truck and I said, "Well, I might as well look at the battery voltages." My battery was at 0.070V and hers was at 2.5V. So clearly it was the batteries. What a coincidence they both crapped out at the same time several months ago!

Went to the store and bought some batteries and voila! Problem solved. I just can't believe we lived with this for months... :dammit:

One a side note... Where did you get those diagrams Moneypit? I would love to get those for all of my vehicles! It was so helpful!
