Off-road apps...

Does anyone know of a good all around iphone app for off-roading? Trying to find something that can give me a decently good idea of my bearings, coordinates, mapping and so on... I am jailbroken so it can be authorized or not as long as it works.

Time to bring this thread back to life. I just tried a couple really good iPhone apps while out four wheeling last Saturday. I would recommend:

Navigator - FREE! Download maps for free (to use offline) and track your route to share with others
Every Trail - Also has a free version - paid version looks nice and has offline mode

Anyone else out there find anything worth using?

P.s. TrailRanger is a good free clinometer...

Backcountry Navigator (for Android, dunno if they make an iPhone version) is the bees knees. Mapquest, Topo maps, and satellite views are free, and you can pre-cache any of them for use when you're outside cell range. I love it.

I have been playing with:

GPS Kit. Very cool and feature packed. A bit pricy though. You get what you pay for. Everything you could want in an app for offroading.

MotionX GPS drive. A great program for general directions and driving.

PDF Maps. You can download topo maps and if your phone is GPS (iPhone is) it will show you where you are on the map without cell service.

GPS Status. Shows you the information your phone GPS is receiving.

Navigator. Crashes on occasion but is simple and works OK

All Trails. More for hiking.

Of these GPS Kit is by far the most feature packed. I like being able to cache maps at home then have them without cell service. I also really like being able to drop a "weather station" any where and look up the weather at that place. And save those stations for future use.

I have this funny-looking "phone", it's called a Garmin GPS--seems to do pretty good (LOL). My "phone" phone is so cheap, all it does is make phone calls and texts (on the number pad).

I have a windows phone, so there aren't tons of apps for it, but I use routetracker. Its simple and helps keeps track of where I go.. Helps when trying to map out trails, but Im always looking for something better.

I would ALWAYS have a backup to your cell phone such as a map and compass. The gps only works when you have cell service.
The one I use but it might not be as helpful to some of you is the arcgis app for the iphone.
I like it because you and your friends can edit maps and routes and see it on eachothers phones/computers.

Cell service not required for Trimble Navigator, it can store maps to your sd card, and uploads to either their cloud, youtube, facebook, or whereever. You can share your track, or others tracks through the desired area.

Not true, sir. Most newer iPhones and Androids have real GPS on them, not just triangulation from the nearest tower.

Map and compass is always good to have, and I always have mine. But I'm not dependant on a cell tower to navigate with my phone. (just don't talk to me about battery life... )

The battery has a life? At best with gps+lit display I get 3hrs...lol

there is an Android app called 4runner Inclinometer...cool name, cool price (free). it works and long as you can keep your phone in the same place.

iPhones have assisted GPS. It uses cell + GPS to more quickly locate you. However without cell it works just fine with GPS only. It does suck battery though, best to be plugged in.
