Off Road, or Off Road Premium?

I love my Premium. The leather is much more comfortable IMO, and my beasts have yet to cause any damage; 130# Cane Corso & 95# GSD/Lab. If I'm going far then I just fold down the seats for them and they have a new bed. I found the sunroof unnecessary too, at first, but have found uses for it. It's the wife's photo platform when we're SLOWLY exploring, adds a rain proof vent for when traveling with gassy dogs (and wife), and lets some cheerful light in on a shitty day.

The KDSS is nice for on-road driving, the majority of what we all do, I understand that a 3" or lower lift is not a real issue...
The rear locker is a must have for me.

Sold my Tacoma because the seats killed my back. Just drove a thousand mikes today from Montana to California in my new SR5 Premium with the 8 way power seat. No back problems. Well worth it if you have back probs.

I wish the lumbar support was adjustable vertically, as well - my Audi A3 has this and its very helpful. I don’t know if it is just me, or women’s bodies in general, but the lumbar support in seats and chairs is usually uncomfortably high for me. I’ve been kind of discouraged with my new 4R’s interior, especially having trouble getting comfortable in the front seat.
That being said - I sat in the back for a few hours this AM waiting in a parking lot and was totally geeking out over how comfy the back seat is. The reclining rear seats ROCK!

So it sounds like the Premium is the way to go and would make more sense for us.
Now I guess I really need to weigh the SR5 vs the Trail/Offroad.

this is a great point to make. I'm 6'4 and sat in an OR with sunroof the other day and dang...my head was about 1/4" from touching the roof. Could you lower the seat and recline back to accommodate? Sure. But that's uncomfortable. I ended up with a ORP without sunroof (and no KDSS). So much more room without the sunroof. For taller owners, it's a huge factor to consider.

Including the $995 destination charge and the Wilderness pkg $435(rubber mats and roof cross bars, probably didn't need either but it's what they had in mag grey coming to the area in allocation), it was about $37,975. Went through Costco Auto to get the $1400 off MSRP.
Then of course there is tax/title/etc. and extra service/warranty packages if you opt for those. Part of the deal on my trade in value was to buy the Green Car pkg, with protective 3m covers for the door edges and handles, a few other things too, so that added a little. Amazing how things add up... In WA the value of your trade-in is subtracted from your purchase price when calculating the sales tax (~10%), so that softened the blow by about 3k.

I went with the premium and really like it so far. I went with the softex just because its so much easier to clean. Plus I really wanted the heated seats because living in the mountains its nice to have that little bit of extra warmth in the morning.

Worst part of the heated seats is wishing you had a heated steering wheel.

This is exactly why I got the Trail instead of TEP. I'm 6'4"

I sold a sr5 premium to a guy who was about 6'4" and his head was literally touching the roof. Not really sure why he went with it, especially after the sales manager was a prick. But he loved it! Looked uncomfortable as hell. Makes me happy my 03 limited has height adjusting seats. I'm only 6'1" though.

I've been on the fence between buying an new TRDOR vs ORP. Since the SofTex "Pleather" is a big reason for the markup, I'm leaning towards another standard OR now. I live in Hawaii where it's relatively always in the 75-90 degree range and noticed how much hotter the Softex is vs the cloth on a 20-minute test drive. I put the Cover King neoprene seat covers on my current 4R cloth seats and they actually made them feel even more comfortable. I just wish they'd make the side mirrors with blinkers a standard option for safety reasons
If you'll ever want/need a rear locker and can get the Trail/OR for less than $2000 more than the SR5, I think it's worth the up-charge for that alone. Adding a locker is easier now than ever, but having it in there with the factory warranty makes it worth it in my opinion. Things like Crawl Control and such are nice, but it's really the locker that makes the strongest case for the Trail/OR in my opinion.
I played the toss up game over the past few weeks, and realized that a ORP w/o KDSS was in slim pickings (if anyone in the CAT/Northern SET region wants to know where they are, I have a spreadsheet of them)...
After figuring out that it was unlikely I'd find a ORP in the color(s) I wanted, and a brief moment of looking at TRD OR Tacos I decided I was ok w/o SofTex (didn't want sunroof) and that I could just add a Rostra heated seat kit for $160; as of yesterday I'm the happy owner of a '18 OR.
The lack turn signal mirrors kind of irked me (my last car was a '15 Jetta Sport, oddly the "Sport" gave you all the other features, but removed signal mirrors :drama: ), but overall I'm quite happy.
As snitz said earlier, the back seats are where it's at for the recline feature!

I bought a 16' Trail (non-premium) and regret springing for the premium version for a few reasons. I came from a 13' Limited with all the bells and whistles and my intentions were to just buy the cheapest trail version I could get because I was going to build it up. Didn't think I'd want to have leather, sunroof (my 13' sunroof rattled), heated seats, etc etc. Ended up getting aftermarket katzkins with heated seats for $1750 installed. My dog shed so much and his hairs just impregnated into the cloth that I'd have to shop vac the truck every 2 weeks. It's also cold here in Park City so heated seats were a nice upgrade. That cost could have gone towards the difference in getting a premium. I also miss things like the homelink mirror, garage door buttons on the overhead console, heated mirrors (again, it gets cold here), and side blinkers on the mirrors.
I went for the cheaper truck with the intention to keep it barebones as possible. You can add-on a few things later but once you do that you've crept your price back up to a premium. Something I should have gone with in the first place.
