yeah, headers are not cheap to have made "custom"
I'm curious as to why the headers available for the same motor on the Tundra don't fit? Has anybody tried to take those and modify them to make them fit?
Very few people have done anything with exhaust up front - for a vehicle that has been around this long I am very surprised at the lack of aftermarket options regarding this stuff!
There are other aftermarket headers besides the TRD version - I'm sure they are all very similar in design. Aside from the dipstck you said trimming the flange on steering shaft. What else needed to be done?
Also - Why is there no tuning software or piggy-back systems being installed? There has got to be a lot more potential in this motor than the stock output. I'm putting down 30% more with a motor that is 35% smaller.
It wasn't exactly trimming of the steering shaft as it was dimpling the actual pipe so the shaft could spin. This may or may not be an issue depending on design of the header.
I'm also TRD supercharged and run a MAPecu3 tuner to control fuel and timing. I'm sure that someone could add a tuner to a truck with just headers and see an increase. I initially added the headers as it was the cheapest route to fix the exhaust leak. Now I have well over 300 hp so that's just the way it goes haba
