Off-roading in Houston Texas

Hey all,

We're having another off-roading trip this coming weekend (3/11/06) at Generalsams.com:

It is in Huntsville. I think that the gate fee is $15. It is a lot of fun...something for everyone.

Last time out, we had a mix of vehicles: Jeep Rubicon, Lexus GX470 KDSS, and Toyota trucks. I would like to see a 4runner this time out!

We've been there before. Hopefully, it won't be so muddy. I truly hate mud with a deep passion!

Nah...the trails are of decent width. Trust me, i would be the first one to freak out in my BLACK box!

If you can make it, then it will be cool. It's a good off-road park. It can be quite challenging (technical & steep) with easy trails as well. It is my favorite place so far around Houston area.

If you Texas guys are up for a drive, ya'll should check out Barnwell Mountain. Great place to wheel, and lots of technical stuff other than mud bogging.

As long as you stay on the main trails, you should be fine. There's a main loop that has some decent stuff on it, but some of the side trails get pretty narrow - especially at the farthest end of the park.

I went out 2 weeks after I got my runner, and left a decent amount of black paint on the trees. Wife wasn't pleased, but she isn't paying for it!

All in all, a pretty good time.

They do allow motorcycles, checking with my friend who has one, see if he can make it.

We had a blast today! Vehicles include: 2001 Lexus LX470 (stock), 2003 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon (2" lift), 2004 Mercedes G500 (31" BFG AT KO, sliders), 2004 Toyota 4runner (OME lift, 32" tires), and 1999 Honda CRV.

Mochoajr's 4runner did REALLY well...we were all impress with his lifted rig! ATRAC on LX and 4runner did it's thing...impressive. ATRAC on these Toyotas is superior to ATRAC on my G500 when not locked. No wonder the M-class sucked so much in off-roading!

Damage report:

I did put a small dent in my front bumper and cracked my rear right bumper a little due to sliding into a mudpit...the mudpit was deeper/steeper than expected (slightly exceeding my approach/departure angles). My brother's Rubicon also got damaged in the rear bumper in the same mudpit.

The 4runner damaged the left rear panel due to sliding against a tree during a hill climb. His front skidplate also got banged up over a rock.

An interesting side note...there was an RTI ramp at the place. The Rubicon, LX470, and G500 all got up to the same place on the ramp. These attempts were done without lockers in low range.

The scratches buffed right out. You can see part of it very faintly if you get up close.

Got my 4runner washed and waxed on Sunday morning and they
cleaned the interior.
