Off-Roading near Oregon coast or Portland?

Will be heading up north from Sacramento to Oregon for a few days with my wife and daughter. Due to luggage needs will be taking the 4Runner this time. I figure since I've got it out, any scenic trails in Oregon near the northern coast or the Portland area? I don't want anything technical since I'll be by myself and don't want to get stuck somewhere. A mild to moderate offroading trail will be a lot of fun though!

Open to suggestions and experiences!

I'd say there would be a lot in the Brookings-Crescent City area...I'd google away, but saw a lot of dirt roads heading out into the middle of nowhere when visiting there last summer...

Brown's Camp between Tillamook and Portland has a lot of easy trails that your family would enjoy.

Check out the Oregon backcountry discovery route (OBDR). I don't remember the specifics but it'll take you from Northern California to Washington mostly on trails. It was mapped out by dual sport riders but I've heard the whole system of trials is doable in a 4x4.

I'll second Brown's Camp - it's quite a large area with a wide variety of trail levels.

Lots of areas to go play in the dunes or on the beach too. Sand lake, florence, coos bay, etc.

Back to the original question, if you go to Brown's Camp, stop off at the Tillamook Forest center (Tillamook Forest Center) on the way - you can get any needed permits and maps there, and it can be a fun (free) hour or two.....
