I'm leaving off to basic training in a couple months. Any suggestions on what to do with my 4runner?

I've invested way more than I'll ever get out. But I'll sell it if I have to.

What do you guys think?

Welcome to the Armed Forces, what branch? Id day keep it, and just get it after you complete basic.

Do you know where your first duty station is going to be? I would say store it with a friend/ family and then take it with to your duty station. I left my vehicle at home during Basic and AIT(22years ago) and it was cheap basic transportation.

I would say keep it, every car dealer near a post will be out to rip off the new privates. As pikeman said, i would have some one you trust keep an eye on it until you are at your duty station then bring it with you. I believe if you are stationed over seas the military will ship a vehicle for you.

Keep it.... As soon as you are done with basic / training you will need a ride.. You will quickly become everybody s best friend as well :)

like everyone here has stated keep it do not sell it(unless its to me for like $50 then of course SELL SELL SELL) but yeah leave it with a good trusted friend, or your parents or someone(not your girlfriend as she might not be "your" girlfriend by the time you are done... hell id even rent out a storage unit and park it in there and pay them upfront for the time you will be gone before id sell it. whats your MOS?, i gather you are army from your usage of the term "basic training"?

Thank you sir, for protecting my freedom and liberties.
as far as the Runner, as others said, keep it, once you get to your station, you WILL want it.
What part of KC are you in?
Oh and what branch ? MOS ?

Thanks for all the replies guys! I am joining the army, set off for military police training.

And as for my runner, I will keep it. I won't get to see it for 19 weeks.. That will be more painful than the girl leaving me lol.

I was in Kansas city mo, I moved to phx about two months ago.

oh man an MP huh? gonna be giving out speeding tickets for driving 15 mph on the FOB huh? :jump:
some advice...the military is what you make of it, it is full of really great opportunities, but a lot of people ignore them and lose out on a lot.

I love me some MPs. Only because y'all and Seabees have a symbiotic relationship. We get drunk and stupid, y'all arrest us. Welcome to the club young man.

Just giving you a hard time. stick with your goals, time seems to move a lot faster and can get away from you. I came in with the intent of going to flight school after 4 years or so.....here it is 11 years later and im finally going

Some of the best advice any of us experienced guys can give. After 22 years and yes still counting, there are some opportunities I wish I had taken but there are even more that I am glad I have taken. The military will only give back what you put into it and can be a great carreer. I will say though that there is no middle ground, you will either love it and thrive or hate it and get out.

man i keep finding different MOSs out there, and here i though there was only 11B oh well at least i suckered into the best lol naw just giving you a bad time... dont let the DSs get to you at basic, just remember they dont know your of your family or where your from ect. their job is to break you and build you back up, the sooner you can play by their rules the easier its gonna be for you! basic goes by fast(although when you are they it seems to take forever) when you look back on it it will have been a lot of fun. best of wishes man

goodluck

Yeah try to have as muc fun as you can in basic I look back now and wish I could go back just cause I know the game and it had me in some of the best shape of my life, take advantages of those oppurtunites as much as you can and make sure you hang around the right crowd. I wish I had my 4runner thru basic cuz it wud def. be more hooked up than it is already.

Thanks for all the helpful info. I'll be thinking of it in basic.

I'm ready to go. I'm excited. I come from a military family so I know what it's about.

Only bad thing is dealing with my brothers that are marines.

1) don't sell your truck, put it in storage.

2) sign up for the GI-BLL - some people (believe it or not) forgo this and lose out. Also sign up for the KICKER.

3) Don't come home from basic and get your girl pregnant like many of my buddies did

Well I know this is my own dead post but i figured you military guys who posted may like an update

anyways I leave in Feb I decided to keep the 4runner, and as well I have swapped my MOS to EOD bomb disposal instead of MP.

Thank god, I am happy with all my choices, especially not being an mp.

Thanks for the service military guys, and thanks for the extremely helpful advice.
