Offical Big Bear August 4th Info

Hey guys just found this as I was searching through some stuff.
Tour de Big Bear hope this doesn't create problems when we get into Big Bear area. Not sure if roads will be closed or not. If anyone knows any more info about this please post. Maybe a challenge getting out of Big Bear area or to jacoby canyon if roads are closed.
 
I'm going to try to make this run, it's been a while since I've been out playing in the dirt. Put me in as tentative until I get clearance from the wifey...
 
I just saw this thread so I am going to see if I can get off work. Hopefully be able to make it out and bring one or two friends

I looked up the bike race and we will be ok. The race is centered mainly around the lake itself and not near any of the roads. Only concern of mine is that the race course is taking place around the lake and down the 18 as well as the 38 which is of course where our run ends.. If all else fails we might have to go back the way we came...
 
I'm a big bear local my self and I can show you guys some hidden trails that locals only know about. That's if some people wanna go after clarks run. And the tour to big bear most of the time goes up the 330 highway and ends in the village or snow summit parking lot. So if we avoid those two places we shall be good.

Im down to do some hidden local only trails! Count me in! Im sure some of the other guys would love to go too.
 
Well I am going to be letting my son drive Jacoby on Sat morn so Ill keep an eye out for you guys. Id be in for some of these "secret" trails. Redz4Runner - do you have a Ham radio?

Anyone else have a Ham radio? Would be an easy way to get in contact after you have run Clarks Grade which I'm not doing.
 
i have a scanner for fire, water ham ect but its only a one way communication device. could always tune it to a certain station i suppose.
 
No I don't have ham radio I wish I did lol. Just did one tonight that my friends showed me that I never knew you could get down too. Here's a pic of the great night lol. Bye the way we found it upside down flip it over. And it look like its been there for awhile.

From what everyone says the run is only a 1.5-2 hour run and we are meeting at 9. I say the odds are pretty good but wouldn't want to promise anything. If it's not something you want to miss for your son I would sit this one out... Just my opinion though..

He is testing for an advanced belt ,cannot miss this. I will plug the numbers in the GPS in the morning to see how fast I would need to drive back home.
 
Any idea how 'tight' this trail is? I have a Tundra now and its a big wide beast, my 40 is still up in NorCal. Do miss my 4Runner down here - especially when parking, lol.

Everyone keeps saying the trail is a moderate trail, but never how wide it is. However I use to have a Tundra and the wheel base isn't much bigger than my runner. Just a long sucker lol. I'd say you'd be alright as long your 4x4.

Some areas are a little tight. IICR a few of the switch backs are kind of tight. Might have to put it in reverse a couple of times. I know one section the cliff is on your right side. I just don't know what this past winter did to the trail.
 
For the most part the trail width is enough for a tundra and then some.
Like Keemonrunnin stated, there are a few spots that are somewhat tricky but managable. Yes, there is a cliff on the right side in some areas but just slow it down and everything will be fine.

Hey guys... I very regretfully will not be able to make this run - We couldn't find a sitter for my 10 mo old twins, which was originally ok, cuz my wife was gonna stay home this time, but now she's sick, so it's just not gonna work out. Such a bummer too, since it was going to be my 4 yr old daughter's first trail ride, and she was super stoked about it. Any idea when the next one might be?

Sorry guys, I can hardly do any of these weekend runs without weeks of notice in advance. I hope someday we can plan some weekday runs.

Maybe next time. Things happen, what can you do. There are some of us that try to go at least once a month. If not keep an eye on the SoCal thread or post a day when you're looking to hit some trails and maybe someone will jump in and set up a run. Hope to see you on the next run.
