Official: Gym/Workout Thread

Any of you guys give P90X a try? I did it over this past summer from June until October and I was in the best shape/ best looking I have ever been in my life. Didn't really give myself a strict diet but I did try to eat as healthy as possible (chicken, fish, veggies...) but the occasional burger and steak would work its way in (have to love that red meat), along with candy, I have a really bad sweet tooth. Anyways, like I said, P90X kicked my a$$. I loved it. I had to stop unfortunately because I started my job in October in public accounting for a big 4 firm and my life has gone out the window. I am hoping to pick it back up soon as I have signed up for 2 tough mudders this year(one in July and one in September) and I need to get back into training for those. I was taking a pre workout - Lit Up - when I was working out over summer. It worked well. I recently purchased a new pre-workout called HemoVex from nutrishop...WOW! If you guys have a chance, try it out! You'll get the spiders crawling on your face in no time! Anyways, I def recommend P90X for those looking to lean up and yet still gain muscle...like I said, I was the best looking and in the best shape of my life...although I am only 23. Give it a try, you wont be disappointed if you stick with it.

i did one round of p90x classic back then, lost about 4% body fat. but i also lost a lotta muscle and strength. now i just treat my body like a machine, watching my macros and calories and try to stay away from any bad food. been lifting heavy since i was 14 took a long time to get the size and strength i have now, so i try my best to keep it. but i will begin cutting soon with a 750 calories deficient and some light cardio. i take Craze for pre workout and stack it with Hemavol. works insanely good

I did 8 weeks of P90X but stopped because I had lost 10 pounds and my bench went down 20 pounds. It was a good workout for sure, but not what my already skinny self needed. Benched 200 6 times yesterday.. I am 5'11" and 167lbs.

Yea I stayed between 160 and 170 the entire time doing p90 and I am 5'10". I wanted to bump up to 175-185 so I cut out the majority of the cardios...except plyos of course cause I love that, and just made my own schedule:
Monday: Chest and back
Tuesday: Shoulders and arms
Wednesday: Plyos
Thursday: Back and Biceps
Friday: Chest, Shoulder, and triceps
Saturday: Legs and back

It got me pretty jacked. I did that routine for about a month until I had to stop for work. I used to do a lot of heavy lifting in college but that ended last december(2011) so I couldnt tell you how much my bench has decreased. But then again I wasnt doing P90 for strength...doing it more for training purposes for tough mudder and to look good naked for the lady friend...which worked just as expected haha...:whoo:

A little more of what I'm used to. Always been a heavier lifter but got into triathlons for a while. Quit that when I started work after college and I'm just now getting back into lifting... Up to 365 on flat bench and I'm about to go to the gym now and beat my legs worse than Alabama beat Notre Dame...

back and bi's today. feel great!

I do have one question though. And DO NOT tell me it is bad to do this, I know the possible affects and do not want to hear about it.

Cycling.
So basically, a while back, I worked out for a good 5+ months. Saw a few results in my muscle growth, but nothing big. Ya ya, I'm a teenager and want to look big. Haha I know, but seriously, I do... So I have 2 options.
Take creatine, or cycle. My friend has talked about cycling a lot and his friend has done it and gained A LOT of results when he did it.
1. I don't know where to get it? (order it online I'm guessing)
2. It's pretty damn expensive
3. How long do I have to take it?
4. Do i just take it, and that is it? What is the total process?

Creatine
I've done a little research on creatine and it seems to be a safer route than cycling. From what I've gathered, it's a capsule, and you just take it orally. (post workout)
Like above, I don't know where to get it, and all that.

If anybody has had any experience with any of these two options, and can give me their 2 cents, that'd be great!

Sorry if what I am asking is a little unclear. Kind of tired from finals this week:dizzy:

what kind of cycling are you talking about? cycle in bodybuilding just means that you take something for a while then hop off of it, people do it with supplements, steroids or even carbs.

As far as creatine goes it is possibly the best muscle building supplement you can have, note that the supplement itself does not actually build muscle is what you do when you are on it. it pumps more blood into your muscles and the muscle will have more endurance and strength from the extra glycogen and oxygen. you will feel like you muscle is fuller stronger and you can work your muscle longer and you can crank out more reps. creatine is a really safe supplement to take, only down side to it is when you take it you will be more thirsty because the extra water you body is storing to put in your muscles, also when you hop off creatine you will lose a little size from the creatine bloating and lose a little strength. But think of it this way you are taking 10 steps forward and 1 step back.

Best creatine to take is Creatine Monohydrate, is the simplest form of it and it is also the cheapest and most effective. the best Creatine on the market IMO is concret. Oh and most of them are just powders and they come with a little scoop.

So the best way to take creatine is to take it 30-40 mins before work out and right after. you only need about 5-10g a day, anymore you'll just piss it out and waste. i do 6 grams pre workout and 4 after.

I assume you are talking about cycling pro hormones. I would highly not recommend this. What it does is increase testosterone to insane levels so you will get bigger faster. It works, but has a lot of risks and is not healthy at all. It is VERY hard on your liver. Your body freaks out and starts making more estrogen which causes man boobs. It can make your boys downstairs (hint hint) get smaller, stop working, or shrivel up. There are things you can take to try and stop the side effects and it usually works to a certain extent. It is just definitely not the smart path to go down.

Creatine is fine. I will make you a little bigger and stronger but not enough to make a big difference. Not worth the money in my opinion. Plus when you stop taking it you will get smaller which sucks.

I would advise you to just take a pre-workout and protein. I like C4 and Jack3d the best. There are lots of good pre-workouts to take though. They basically have caffeine and a few other things in them to make you have a better workout. It will give you more energy and help you last longer / do more sets in the gym. Most have some type of creatine in them too which will save you money from buying the pills.

Other than that I would say if you are wanting to get bigger make sure you are isolating muscles. do sets of 4-6 and 6-8. Always heavy weight. You must stretch though. It will help you lift heavier and not hurt yourself. Also, make sure you are working out legs.. don't be that guy..

Hope this helps!

Ps, I am a college student so I feel your pain on wanting to be big fast. It happens over time with commitment, trust me.

Two first for me last night in the gym. I was able to do and hold a front lever on the rings for about 3-5 seconds and was also able to sit on the ground, press up off the ground and then press up into a handstand. Stoked!

Im not pro HGH or steriods but i just feel like making things more clear, steroids are not all created equal, there are ton of different types that does different things, some are hard on the liver such as oral and some cheap injectable do increase gyno AKA bitsh tits. Also steroids will make you balls smaller they will be the size of a walnut if you ABUSE, Most if not ALL bad side effects are from people who don't know what they doing. so to TRDteen if you don't know anything about HGH or test i suggest you stay away.

Creatine makes a big difference, it makes a more fun and intense workout, also they are about the cheapest supp you can take ON brand creatine monohydrade is only about 15 bucks big bottle. as far as getting smaller after you get off, like i said 10 steps forward 1 step back.

I took both C4 and Jack3d, they are both very good, but nothing beats Craze IMO, and craze also has Creatine so it will save you money on buying creatine

most effective muscle building exercise are compound movements(use more than 1 muscle) not isolation, isolation is great for getting definition, but for size is compound movements all the way, low # of reps, high # of sets.

In order to get big you will have to surpass your maintenance calories, so if you are eating what you eat now and you are not gaining any weight at all increase you calorie intake by 500, too much you'll gain fat but 500 should be a good steady pace to build muscle and keep the fat off.

Hope this helps!
