most people dont do squats correctly, dont know how to flex their hip abductors.

...and that's why I mentioned the fact that they don't 'focus' on hip adductors. It would have been much better to say it as you have above, true.

(I know this because I've had pretty severe pain in my pelvis for the last 8 months straight, and part of the problem was indeed due to semi-incorrect squatting form. Soon as I learned to do it correctly as you mention above, my squat dropped literally 75# or so, BUT everything else felt GREAT after performing the squats.)

Man, you're a beast when it comes to squats. I don't consider myself a puss but my max so far is about 355#.

Then again, being 37 and with all the surgeries I've had, 355# isn't too shabby, I suppose.

one of my favorites is to go on decline, put a weight you can rep for 15 easily, and do 10 reps normal grip, 10 reps wide grip, and 10 reps inside/close grip. no breaks in-between, for 4 sets, if that doesn't get your chest sore, you're just too strong

I like the idea of the burnouts. They are great to build size in your chest. I'm trying to cut and build my lower chest to make it stand out.
I'm also trying to build shoulders and back to help my bench go up. I had a torn labrum in my right shoulder from rugby so my bench has always struggled.

not at all man, most 37 year olds don't even lift. as long as you are working out , you are already doing better than most of the population.

tomorrow is my max day for chest, been working it a lot lately and want to find out what its done. any suggestions for warmups/stretches pre max?

True, true. One of the trainers' favorite sayings @ our box is "You're beating 100% of the people who are at home sitting on their @ss." LOL

Started cardio, so that I don't run out of gas at 8500 feet.

There is no oxygen up here.

Started to jog around my house, elev. 7200 ft... then joined a gym when the morning temps started to be in the 20s.

if youre a skier/snowboarder try taking the 6 chair to imperial up at Breck. last season i was really gasping for air up there

Subject change: I've been toying with my bench press to try and get some gains in this area. I've always been terrible at bench and its always been my worst exercise. I took some tips from this video series: EliteFTS.com - So You Think You Can Bench (Part 1) - YouTube
I widened my grip and put the weight on my traps like this video shows. Amazing how it makes a difference. I'm up to 6 reps with 235lbs. I don't have a spotter so I don't push too hard.
Anyone else have any tips to share?
i only do flat bench and incline press.. i alternate the two from workout to workout and i alternate from bb to db... i also do dips..

Ain't that the truth! It sucks getting old, but I try to make it suck less by going to the gym.

Today, I did some light weights, then cardio for,ugh...90 mins. I'm going to pay for that tomorrow. Oh well, I enjoyed it.

265 for 2 reps. i went from 135 for 10 as a warmup, 185 for 2, 225 for 2, then went to 265 for 2. i don't really believe in maxing, but every now and then i like to see where i stand with a muscle group

ok i thought you meant you did it frequently... it is good to see where you stand and to use as a base(1rm) so you can structure a routine accordingly.

Haven't done a single deadlift since my back injury, after my midterm tomorrow im gonna give it a go with light weights.

Just take it easy! Don't want to re-injure things.

I've switched to sumo deadlifts. They are a lot easier on my back and suit my tyrannosaurus arms much better. Of course I've had to drop the weight significantly to get used to the new style, but I definitely feel better doing them.

This. I wouldn't say that regular deadlifts are bad to do; but I WILL say that good form is PARAMOUNT.

There's a site I frequent - mobilitywod.com. The guy happens to be a doctor and a CrossFit box owner, but the stuff he teaches can be applied to anyone who lifts/works out/etc. He also has a book out that has made an ENORMOUS difference in my agility/flexibility/pain level.

i switched to sumos a while back as well, easier on the hips and knees too.

edit: thought we were talking bout squats. i do sumo squats, regular deads.
