Official: Gym/Workout Thread

We/I ordered a treadmill and it'll be here tomorrow! It will be nice to do cardio at the house.

Now I can just get up in the morning and run in my underwear if I want!

did triceps and shoulders today:

shrugs
shoulder press
bent over rows

skull crushers (bar/dumbbell)
cables (you guys know)
and the weird tricep machine we have at my gym

everything was 4x12

I have been using NO explode for sometime now and I want switch it up. What are you guys using, if any?

I've been using NO for the summer. After seeing that scary news clip on Jack3d I stopped using it. Haven't had the post workout jitters since. But to answer your question I've been thinking of trying 1 more rep.

leg day is done

ran for 30 minutes (call me crazy gym rats)

squats
135x10
185x10
225x10
285x10

leg press machine for calves, 3x20

not super intense, but when you aren't old enough to rent a car yet and you have arthritis in your knee already, you kinda have to take it easy

i will be gradually bumping up my calorie and macro intake,
since i havent gained any weight on the last few weeks of my bulk.
picked up some high calorie /fats groceries to aid :
bagel and cream cheese, bacon, egg whites, cottage cheese,
peanuts, to name a few.

still doing full body workout

tonight:

flat bench bb press 6 sets of 8
bb military presses 4 sets of 10
bb rows 4 sets of 10
bb curls 3 sets of 8

i tried that. i increased my food 30% to bulk during the winter months. but the only place i was really bulking even with clean eating was in my mid section. i was gaining about 1lb a week but overall i didnt feel bigger. ive since scaled back a little bit so i can stay leaner in the belly.

my week in the gym is over, ended today with chest and biceps

chest
flat bench
135x10
185x10
205x10
225x8 (i just couldn't do two more lol)
decline
185x10
165x10
135x10

biceps
preacher curls
65lbs, 4x10
one arm standing preacher curl, 35lb db, 3x10
cable curls, 3x10 170lb (the weight on this cable machine doesn't mean crap)
and a big old glass of whey

well two posts in a row and both of them chest...i swear i do legs every now and then

chest today, body weight (160 for me) for 5 sets, to fail each set. started out getting in the mid to high 20's for reps, ended with 12 reps on my 5th set. chest fly's after, then i promised myself i wouldn't push anything the rest of the day.
WillK hope you have a speedy recovery

sidenote, zopperman should be back in the gym by now, his hand has to be fine

during winter you need to focus on hypertrophy workouts, meaning higher reps, feel the burn the contraction, the pump. and the summer time when its time to cut switch to power workouts, heavy heavy weight with low reps. because when you cut there is no way to make muscle gains, caloric deficit means no muscle building. so you want to lift heavy to preserve the muscles you have.

Good workout man!

And thanks for the shout out! I'll be back in there as soon as I can. Not too mention, we have a treadmill at home now- all ready to go!

As for Zak, he coulda been doing squats all along. :behindsofa:
Instead, he's been going to PT 3 X a week just so he could flip me off! I love it!!!

lately ive been doing 7*7. and increasing the weight 10-20lbs/set so on that last set i can barely finish. i end up getting more reps in than if i was doing say 10*4. is this ok for higher reps?

Hypertrophy rep range is 10-15, and its really not about the weight, its about getting the reps out so sticking with same volume, instead of doing 7x7 you'll be doing 5x10 or 4x12. the weight you choose is critical you have to choose a weight that you can at least get 10 reps, but you are aiming for 12 and the last 2 reps should be pretty damn hard.

it's hard to do hypertrophy work all the time, because it plays a game on the mind that you are not lifting heavy, so alternate per week, hypertrophy week and power week. one week you just do high reps and next week you kick up the weight and do low reps.
