Here's the goofiest looking thing I've ever hit at 700 yards with. :50cal:

My Colt 6940 is set up very similar. Except it's the 16".

Is that a 44 or 50mm Vortex?

I have the 44mm MRAD.

Also I'm using a cheap bipod I bought for 30 bucks on amazon.

It's a Vortex Viper HSLR 4-16x50 FFP/XLR that belongs to a shooting buddy who is also a Vortex dealer. He threw out the challenge that he could get my 10.5" Noveske SBR dialed in to ring steel at 728 yards in fewer than 10 rounds. I shot, he spotted, and he had me on target in just 9 rounds. I think I was the most surprised.

What's an AR 308 barrel run, anyway, compared to all that ammo?

For an HK? You don't want to know.

A factory threaded barrel for my P30 is close to $400.

Shoot it.

308 wears out barrels faster, but you still will get 15-25k rounds thru the pipe before you see any real wear. Especially in an HK rifle where it's designed more for longevity.

I fire my colt all the time, it's more financially responsible. The h&k I'm saving for when I really need it.
I must elaborate, the bore is chrome, which gives it a longer service life.
...And my barrel cost more than what a 1st gen sells for

Georgia legislators last night approved a new "gun bill" that expands the rights of concealed weapons permit holders and allows the use of suppressors while hunting. We've been trying for 3 years to get this language approved. The bill also expanded places CWP holders can legally carry to include churches.

Okay guys, so I just purchased a colt m4 and am looking to put a red dot type optic on it something like the EOtech 512 I'm shooting for this gun to be a midrange gun. I'm not convinced on its long range capability so a scope is not needed, maybe?....what's the opinion of you guys that have shot, owned this particular gun it's the le 6920. Personally I think it's a good 100-200 yard gun I know it can reach further but what's loss in lethality? I will mainly be shooting the 855-193 ammo. Any input is appreciated, I might even just keep it an iron sight gun and save for the glass on my next purchase which will be a .308 cal undecided on the particular firearm though.

My Colt M4 6940 gets 1-2" groupings at over 350 yards. The 6920 isn't that much of a different rifle.

The rub is that you're shooting what is essentially a gun with a 14.5" barrel and a 1.5" muzzle brake pinned to it to make it the legal 16."

I would scope it.

At 300 yards 223 rem is 450-475 ft lb for a 55 gr bullet, 400 yds is 350 and 500 is 250. Figure another 50 lbs max for 556, maybe. That's still respectable power for such a small bullet--especially for varmits. If you want to take down a deer go 308. I used to use 458 Socom on pigs, but cartridge doesn't work that great above 75-100 yards because it drops like a rock.

The 6920 is a 16" barrel and isn't pinned. Ballistic difference between 14.5" and 16" is very minimal, basically not worth mention.

Regarding the optic, I would recommend the Aimpoint PRO over the Eotech 512. If you are set on an Eotech, look at the XPS and E-XPS line as they have a better battery compartment and a smaller footprint as well as a better mount design.

I have had 2 PRO's and still have this 1 and am very happy with it.

Funny you should mention that, I just got back from sportsmans warehouse, had to get a little hands on and check out the EOtech and they also had the aim point pro, and I like it!
I think I just might go that route, but maybe the m4, I really like that it takes AA batteries, I try and get things in either AA or AAA

I'm i big fan of leupold, local company for me and I'm tempted to grab the mark 4 hamr but good lord 1500 just might be too much. I can justify about a grand anything more then that and the warden starts to give me bad looks!! And we all know what that means :ballchain:

If you're interested in magnification look into the ACOG TA31F. No batteries and they are bomb proof as well.

Lol, no I agree! Besides my 4runner, I do try and buy American made when the option is available.

I think that's what makes the EOTech so appealing to me is, on platforms other then the 512 they have the flip-away magnifier, so one could effectively go from a longer range to an upfront interface by flipping the unit to the side. Yes it's a novelty, I mean unless the Russians take over and a "red dawn" goes down in my hometown I will never need the dual function of the flip away scope.

So what will my M4 be used for?

Mainly target practice, going to the range, relieving the tension of everyday life that only Sex and shooting guns can provide. And I'm pretty sure if I spend more then 1,000 then one of those stress relievers will close up for a while and I better buy lots of ammo!

So maybe, a nice scope for long range target practice, and a holographic interface for SHTF scenario?

Is there any negative aspects of switching between the two? Will I have to zero in either one after I remove and re-install said scope

a single variable optic with illuminated reticle and switchview throw lever would fill that role nicely...
