its hit or miss, hence the chart. Literally, hit or miss. basically, you might get minor rubbing in reverse so save money for a BMC in case it does if it bothers you.

ok, thanks. I am trying to lift this truck moderately (again, 2 inch lift) and throw some bigger tires on it without having to do any clearance modifications
I ran 285/70/17 BFG KOs on stock suspension with no issues for over a year on TRDP (+4 offset wheels). You will need to do a FLM and BT, but that only takes 30 minutes of your time.
I now run 295/70/17 STT Pros with only a 1" level in the front and -38 offset on a 17x9 wheel that required a BMC (again, $200 and a coupe hours of your time) and that's it, all good to go, everything else is still stock.

The lifting makes no difference with the fitment of larger tires. So if you're asking for a definitive answer to will 285/70's rub on a zero offset 17x8.5 rim there's no way to provide that answer without speculation. You haven't even specified what tire you'd be running so how could anyone know. Easy answer yes it will rub at full lock in reverse, possibly uncompressed and most likely when fully compressed.
If you're not going to wheel it don't worry about it. It'll probably only be an issue going over the curb out of your driveway. If you're going to wheel it then chop the body mount and do the fender liner mod. Get your caster adjusted forward to around 4 degrees also, that'll help keep it off the body mount.

I appreciate everyone providing various pieces of info. I do not plan on wheeling this and the reason for the various questions is because I am unfamiliar (mostly) with throwing larger tires on a 5th gen. I did TRDP wheels and larger tires on my old 3rd gen and didn't have clearance issues so this is new territory for me.

285/70-17 will look "appropriate" however a 275 series will look fine too.. options are more limited in that size though.
expect to remove front mud flaps, trim front bumper, and body mount chop. all that trimming takes 15 min. sawzall with a good blade cuts the body mount like butter.
