Oh-Snap! No really broken wheel cylinder bolt.

Help please, anyone know what size the bolts are that hold the rear wheel cylinder in place (for those who don't know its the hydraulic portion of the rear drum brake assembly where the bleeder and fluid in line go on each wheel).

I was at the tire place getting new studs and a balance and rotation when the service tech said "hey your wheel cylinder on the drivers side is leaking, not much but you look like a DIY guy so I thought I'd point it out).

I bought the $17.99 part from the auto store, installed it and broke the seconf bolt clean off in the new casting.....crap.....tore both units down rebuilt the factory one using the new seals and bolted it inplace with the remaing 1 bolt I had. They are small 9 or 10mm head and there isn't another bolt on the truck like it.

Size, where to order, toyota part?

IF its a 10mm head it would be m6x1.0 if its a 12mm head then 8x1.25.

Length I don't know off the top of my head. your local hardware store or auto parts store should stock the right size.

I replaced one of mine recently , it is a small 10mm bolt. you should be able to find a suitable substitute 10mm bolt for it.

It's either a 9 or 10mm smaller than the plethora of bolts found under the hood (you know the ones that run the wheel wells and can be easily be swapped) ill have to go see what I can find, they aren't a torqued bolt so the one will have to do for now

You guys understand bolts are NOT sized by the head, they are sized by the threads right? There are also zero 9mm bolts/screws or nuts on the vehicle from the factory. Finally EVERY fastener on your truck has a torque spec to it. Some are more critical than others, but they all have them.

So again:


10mm head M6 x 1.0 thread pitch
12mm head M8 x 1.25
14mm head M10 x 1.25 (M10 x 1.5 is common in other brands but not with Toyota)
8mm head is M5 x 0.8

17mm head is an M12
19mm head an M14 I think these are both a 1.25 thread pitch but they could possible be a 1.5

There are a few exceptions to this and Toyota has used a couple of M8 bolts with 10mm heads and things of that nature in the past, but that is the general rule when working on Toyota vehicles. When you go to German vehicles or generic non flanged head bolts, the head size on the 12mm and 14mm usually increase to 13mm and 15mm for the same bolt size.

pull one from the OTHER side, take it down to a hardware store and match it up.

or go to a wrecking yard.
