Oh the stench !!

It was a beautiful , open sunroof day today 70* , sunny not a cloud in the sky.

I was getting a little warm and dropped the back window ........ well I forgot my back in is unusable due to the rotten egg , sulferwhatever .... stench.


Such a cool feature of this truck and I never can use it .

Yeah, but if the window is closed, you're not inhaling the carbon monoxide that's hidden by the sulfur smell. So you'll live longer.

Hmmmm..... I almost never smell that with my truck. On occasion I have, and only then faintly. Not sure why I don't get it as much as others, but, I am glad not to have it, for sure.

Falls ...... you need to drive around with the wife in the runner with the window down and when she says "O my" what the "----" is that smell? You say it's the tires dear that is what happens when they get old.

Just don't you worry Falls after a few miles down the road You will be posting pictures of your new skins the wife let you buy.

Makes me glad I live in Califonia. We have a different blend of gas here so it really isn't a problem at all. I seldom get that smell --- only if I'm climbing a hill over 50MPH or so.

If you roll down one or more of your side windows enough, you get air flowing out the rear. No exhaust sucked in.

Ya know, I think that's what it is with me never smelling it. I almost always have the sunroof open when I have the rear window open. Good airflow, maybe that's it.

I think I'm going to have to take it in to have it checked. I can even smell the cats in the garage after I come home & turn it off.

I was driving with the sunroof open and my drivers window down , just looking cool with a pack of smokes rolled up in my sleeve.....lol ( I'm really dating myself)

I could be wrong but I think that is only for the 2003s and a few of the very early 04s, I tried to have it done on my 04 but the vin was higher than the cutoff and they said if they were made after a certain date that they already should be fixed correctly and my smell ( always a bit noticeable, but only bad under near wot) was normal as it was made after that time (like Dec 2003 or something).

I believe there are TSB's for the sulfur smell all the way through 2006.

But it's a big project to have a dealer do, and at least one member posted a total horror story about some major problems that resulted because it wasn't done correctly. Other members have posted that the new catalytic converter helped but didn't solve the problem 100%.

So you've got to ask yourself if it's really worth it to have the dealer tear apart your exhaust system because of the smell.

I'd experiment with other gas brands or octanes first. I've found the "winter" gas used in the Chicago area makes the smell much worse with BP Amoco 87 octane; the "summer" version isn't anywhere near as bad.

1 day in the shop for the TSB and the smell out of the ass of the 'Bullet has decreased by about 50% to 75%, by my estimation. Didn't cost me a dime, and so it was worth it.

Well I better try again to have this done. Is it strictly an exhaust part that is changed? I am thinking of putting the Gibson exhaust on in October, should I not even have them do this because whatever they do would just be replaced?

It's a new cat and an ECU reprogram. So it will be no problem putting a cat-back exhaust on.
