•HELP• Installing Manual Gauges

Hi guys! I’ve run into a quick issue here so I thought I would ask around in a place that people would understand what I’m talking about.

I am currently trying to install some manual gauges (not electric or digital gauges) and I can’t seem to figure out how to actually set them up. Mounting the visible gauge itself is not the issue, and quite frankly idc what it looks like on the inside. I do a lot of small changes to my engine and would love to see some small visible engine changes too!

I am trying to install water temp., and oil pressure but cannot seem to find where or how to install them. I am going to eventually post a semi private YouTube video explaining the problem and showing my engine so maybe you guys could help point it out. When I create the video, I will also be creating another post on here showcasing the current gauges and how I installed with lots more information, I just don’t have much time.

If anybody has any tips or tricks that would be very helpful! I am posting in the 5th gen section but just in case, I have a 2015 SR5 2WD 4.0 V6. Thank you guys so much!

Just to be a bit more specific, I can’t seem to find where to install the actual metal temperate reading sensor in my engine. I’ve heard there’s ports and adapters for it but I’m not sure what they are called. I’ve also heard for oil pressure, it’s somewhere under the car and you can just adapt it but I have no idea!

Most people buy a scangauge 2 and call it good. I doubt you’ll find anyone who has done it. The basics for this stuff are searchable.

In the old days, most engines had plugs you could remove to install the fittings for these gauges. Water temp plug in the water jacket of the block and Oil pressure usually in the block or in-line with the oil pump. The oil pressure line was usually a piece of tubing with a fitting on the end. Then these lines had to be routed to the gauge cluster through the firewall. Now as Brownfaux said, it's easier to get this info via a scan tool of some sort. I don't know if there are even external fittings on engines these days to connect to. I guess you'll have to research for the 4.0.

It plugs into the OBDII port. Here's a link. In a quick look I didn't see oil pressure listed, but it might be selectable. >> ScanGauge II

If you are doing something in a 2WD that would require you to carefully monitor the oil pressure and water temp, don't do it.

Yes hahaha but I meant, what does it offer. I’m assuming it’s an electronic screen connected to my obd that monitors what my cars computer reads. Personally, I’m in the process of trying to make my T4R look like a race car. Really the gauges are an atheistic.

If it's just for aesthetics definitely go with electric analog gauges rather than mechanical. That's a good idea anyhow but if it's just for looks you'd be stupid to run oil and coolant lines lines into the cab.

The oil pressure sender is located near the front on the passenger side of the block. The coolant temp sender is on top of the block at the back right in the middle of the "V":

Well, I tried to attach a screenshot of a diagram from the service manual. It shows up initially but then breaks? I don't know what that means.....can you see it? Message me if not and I can send it to you.

That looks rather interesting. You could pair that with some analog gauges that aren't hooked to anything,:juggle:

If you were really clever you could get a USB OBD II cable (like you use for TechStream) and then have a Raspberry Pi monitor it and emulate the senders to drive analog gauges....
