Oil Change How Long
I was informed that a good investment to make in the Stinson is a spin on oil filter.
Currently I change the oil every 25hrs with aeroshell 15 50, I have no drop in oil level between oil changes...and just over all I am happy with the engine.
QUESTION IS is a spin on oil filter a worth while thing to do?

Every 3 months or 3,000 mile. I get my oil change for free anyway from Toyota. And they seem to be pretty doing a good job with it. I still don't get it why they don't think it's necessary to grease the zerk fittings..

Previous owner of my 4Runner had been doing it at least every 5000 miles at the dealership with synthetic Valvoline or M1 (had the paperwork in the glove box from the last two or three changes). Probably overkill in my opinion unless there was a lot of cold idling or something else I didn't know about. He never towed a thing and this matches the wear on the receiver (none). I will probably pull a sample at 5000 miles and send it to Blackstone, where I've been doing used oil analyses for a few years now. From there I'll start working up an oil change strategy. I wish the V6 ran on 5W20 like my CR-V did as I've got a few dozen quarts of Pennzoil Platinum on the shelf that I don't have a car for right now.
My father has the '08 Limited with similar miles to my '07 and he's followed the manual for the life of his 4Runner, having it serviced at the dealership. I'd like to start pulling a sample just prior to when he has his changed and compare our results. As of right now looking down the oil filler neck on to the top of the cam and timing chain you can see a slight difference. Mine has nothing but oil and his has a trace of visible varnish. Will it make a tangible difference over the life of the vehicle? Probably not as long as this engine isn't prone to sludging. True differences wouldn't likely become noticeable until many years and well over 100k miles. Lots of these engines that go a long time on mineral oil.
How hard is the V6 on oil? This is my wife's primary vehicle and she totes herself and the kids all around town 1-3 miles at a time meaning there are going to be lots of cold starts with not a lot of complete warm-ups to burn off the fuel that gets in to the oil.

Why not pull a sample and send it to Blackstone and see how your oil is really doing? Only way to know (besides letting it go to failure and then concluding that you waited too long)

4 runner to the dealership for the free maintenance and they told me they would not change the oil until 10K miles they just rotated the tires and filled up the wiper fluid. My wife drives the car and it took exactly 6 months from the day we bought it to do the first service at 5,349 miles. She does not drive that much and we take it on all the trips. Average about 23 miles per gallon on a trip and 20 in town. Love the drive and upgraded stereo system. This is a keeper.

I tend to go about 5,000 milles. I used to do 3,000 on a previous suv because I worked on alot of oil rigs in really dusty conditions. This is also the reason I went back to a paper style air filter. It was gumming up after like 2-3 weeks. So environmental conditions also should be considered in my opinion.

5000 miles generally seems to be a safe interval for mixed driving in the 4Runner but why are you running 10W-40? Spec is 5W-30 and I don't know of anyone having problems running 30 grade oil in either of these engines. In fact, I switched to 5W-20 Pennzoil Platinum from the previous owner's 5W-30 Mobil 1 and just got my used oil analysis results back and wear looks great. I'll post the slip in a fresh thread.
Bottom line is that a 10W-40 is far thicker at startup than a 5W-30 when most of the wear occurs because EVERY oil is too thick to lubricate properly when the engine is cold so you're not doing your engine any favors during startup. At full operating temps the difference between a 30 and 40 grade isn't huge (2-3cst) but it is there.
If you have some great reasons why a 10W-40 is better than a 5W-20 or 5W-30 in these engines I really want to hear it because everything I've learned about lubrication engineering leads me to believe that a 10W-40 will not perform as well at protecting during startup and will not carry heat away as quickly at operating temps (one of the key functions of oil).

2. I once bought a gorgeous 1988 Toyota SR5 4x4 pickup with a 3.0L V6 from the original owner who had it 16 years. This owner specifically recommended to me that I stay with 10W-40 Valvoline because that is all he EVER used in that engine - EVER. .. and boy was it a nice engine. Now days I again have an '88 3.0L V6 (my 4Runner) so I've stuck to what seems to have worked with that previous V6.

7.5-10k on M1 Synthetic w/ M1-209 filter. BITOG says they are extremely easy on oil and Blackstone analysis supports this.
Toyota says you can go 7.5k on dino oil with the 90915-2004 Denso Japanese filter. Not the YZZD3 Thai one. Reminds me - I need to pick up a case of those filters as they're superior to EVERYTHING on the market.

The "D3" means it's for a V8 as well as V6 engines, but yes, they're all made in Thailand.

Just read your manual. Evry 5000 or 6 months for regular oil and 10,000 or 1 year for synthetic. I have owned numerous Toyota's and 2 Lexus and I follow those schedules and never had a problem. If you think it needs it sooner do it, or send an oil sample in for sample test and they can tell you the status of your oil and if it needs changing earlier. Now, if you drive under the severe conditions that are listed in the manual then you should switch to that schedule which is detailed in the manual. Opinions and myths do not count where the warranty is concerned. Stay within the recommendations and you are covered.
