Yes I've been searching and there are 3000 posts about oil changes. I just need a step by step guide. Not 18 pages of chatter
Wrong answer. Were born with that information? How did you do your first oil change and why do you think a guy shouldn't ask a simple question? Do you think he shouldn't learn how to do one himself? You apparently have all the answers, vast knowledge and experience, right?
Maybe when you ask a question we'll just tell you to take it someone who knows how to do it!

Thanks Chris. Have changed oil before on other cars but this is first time on my 4runner.

Any oil change is a lot easier with warm oil. I have to say that the V6 4Runner is probably to easiest oil change on any modern vehicle. Just a couple pointers.
-Its worth it to replace the small paper gasket that goes with the drain plug. They are like $4 for 20 from the dealer. Just replace it every time, no sweat.
-The oil filter is upside down so the oil will drain as soon as you loosen it. The engineers were pretty savvy so they cast a little drain nipple into the oil filter mount point. Just find an empty 20 oz soda bottle or something to put under the nipple when you remove the oil filter. Super easy, no mess.
-Dont over tighten the drain plug. With a new gasket it just needs to be snugged up.
-As mentioned, 5.5 quarts is dead nuts on, it'll take you right to the full mark. I recommend Wally world unless you have some discount hookup somewhere else. 5w-30 for pretty much all weather conditions.
After you change the oil one or two times you can probably do it in less than 30 minutes and not spill a single drop its that easy. Enjoy!

I never realized the v6 has their filter on top. The v8 is up behind the radiator. I wonder what caused the difference in design?
