Oil from where?

So my 4Runner is not my DD as I ride my motorcycle everyday. It usually doesn't sit more than a day or two without me taking it somewhere though. Well this time it sat for like a week and a half without moving. On the way to Lowes tonight my wife commented that there was some white smoke coming from the passengers side wheel well and the smell of burning oil was especially strong. When we got to Lowes I popped the hood to see oil on the valve covers. I'm not certain exactly where it's coming from or what gaskets etc may need replaced, so I figured I'd come to the source of knowledge on all things 4Runner....

Spark plug cylinder seal. Remove the coil pack an you will see it. Also your spark plug tube probably is filled with oil, so remove it before you pull the spark plug out. You will have to remove the valve cover to replace the spark plug tube seals.

Make sure to get new intake manifold gaskets too. Camelback toyota has those gaskets for less than $10 a piece. Each valve cover gasket is $20.

Did they seal correctly? X2 on removing coil pack to see what is going on.

There was a couple post on here a while back about installing and positioning the tube seals. I referenced this post and specifically #6 post.

This is how both my runners were positioned from the factory. If yours are in the correct position and properly seated around the tube then maybe they got damaged somehow during installation.

And there's this.... Guess I'll be ordering parts soon. I just did the valve cover gasket ~year and 8000 miles ago. I did a felpro gasket...I won't need to replace that again when I pull the valve cover off, will I?

Ah ha.

Can't you use a screwdriver and get the seal to seat the tube? this may be worth trying than pulling everything out.

No you shouldn't have to replace it. Do replace the seal and make sure it is correctly positioned as well as fully seated.

Shucks. I really thought I had positioned them correctly when I did the job the first time. Maybe they just didn't seat right? It's been a while since they were done.
