Oil Leak - 4.0L

Just pulled my wife's 08 Urban Runner in the shop to change the oil. When I slid under it, BOOM, oil all over the skid and bottom of oil pan. I haven't switched to synthetic, same oil as I have always run, 170,000 miles. It looks like it is leaking out of the weep hole between the tranny and block. I am going to clean it up to make sure. The pan is fairly dry compared to the rest, so I know it isn't the drain plug. I guess the possiblilities are: rear main, oil pan gasket, and ?????

Maybe overpressure from a bad PCV valve?

Based on the location, my guess is a rear main seal leak.

After pulling the skid plate and the weep hole cover, an inspection camera shows that is where the problem probably is. Now the decision to do it myself or let a friend do it for $350. Not sure if that includes a trans filter and fluids or not. It is time to service it too. I guess that's how it goes. The wife is unhappy and ready to trade, but with 172,000, it's time something goes bad.

I have a shop but no lift, so it would be a garage floor wrestling match. I have jacks and a tranny jack, I just can't decide.

Is it possible to service/flush the sealed tranny at home?

I want tell her what you said! I think we will fix it one way or another. It's been a great ride, just starting the nickel and dime thing. Already did calipers, rotors, pads, brake lines, cv axles, front hub bearings.

Now this and new shocks to replace the failing XREAS.
