Oil leak around transfer case?

Just wiped it clean but there was oil over the black bracket (with 3 holes) in the picture. Transfer case actuator?

Any ideas where to start? Checked transmission fluid which is good. This oil isn't red, its actually oil colored.

Transfer case actuator seal(s) are leaking. Parts are inexpensive and if you’re careful, you can do the work yourself. Several tutorials around explaining the process.

Just to make sure, you saw it clean recently? It looks like a decent amount but is it possible that was just run off from a messy drain/fill? It sort of looks like it starts at the fill plug..

Its a common issue on the 4th gen. It's more than likely the main "O" ring but if you're going to replace you should probably go ahead and do your actuator shaft seals as well.

The O ring is part # 90301-56009 (some people put 2 of them in there) and the seals can be bought from Colonial seal, part # "15x23x7 AS NBR"

If you take it to the dealership be prepared for a $1500-$2000 bill. You could also just replace the whole transfer case actuator (comes with new o ring and seals) but that too will cost between $700-$1200 just for the part.

You sure its actually oil..?
Oil in the X case is gear oil, different from motor oil and wouldn't likely be that dark unless it's never been touched.
Looks thick & cruddy like grease splatter from the drive shaft to me.. Nothing to be concerned over.

There's a lot of grease fling in the first photo.

OP, cleck and change the transfer case oil, make sure the fill and drain are sealed and tight. Then I'd clean all the muck down with some kerosene and just keep an eye on it.

Drained and filled last night, gonna keep an eye on it. I want to say the gear oil fluid looked good, at least a quart came out. Think it calls for 1.5 quarts. I'll report back in a few days. Greatly appreciate all the replies! Thank you
