Bad picture, but from your description it almost has to be the VC gaskets. Very common on these trucks. Any other place (especially the other two mentioned) would be easy to spot as the leak wouldn't be that high up on the motor block.
I looked at a 01 yesterday and it has never been cleaned since 2001 under the hood. The oil traveled down and was blown to the rear by the fan. So tons of oil going down and tons on the firewall. On the brake resivior.
Looks like a leading vc is my guess. If I buy this 01 my plans are to decrease and observe.
Just tighten them for now, some of mine were so loose i could turn them by hand. Once I tightened them all up, cleaned the engine as best i could, it took a few weeks maybe months for the remaining oil to finish burning off but it did. I re-tighten them about once year and they have not leaked since. Luck! :banana:
that's the back of the cylinder head, VALVE COVERS GUARANTEED!!!!!! (or the half-moon plugs, or cam-shaft seals), took me a long time to figure out it was my cam-shaft seal leaking.... Months! :mmph:
