Oil Leakage Concern

I had noticed there is leakage of some type of lubricant/oil coming from what looks to be a sort of pump directly in the middle/bottom of the engine. I'm guessing this is the oil filter. To me it doesn't look like the ordinary oil filters I'm used to seeing. I could be wrong about what I think it is.

I did recently have an oil change done and figured this could just be some residue from it but it seems a little much for that.

Should this be a concerning matter?

Thank you all.

Thanks Antman. Do you know if yours does that? Is it just not tight enough?

There is a specific torque for both the plastic filter cap and the metal drain plug.

There is also an oring on the plastic cap, that should be replaced at each change.

Most likely the oring got pinched or is missing.

At any rate, there should not be oil leaking there and if it was my truck, it would get addressed, I hate leaks.

The oil you're seeing is most likely spillage from the last oil change. Just keep an eye on it and your oil level.

Looks like they made a mess when they changed it. Obviously they didn't clean it up.

I just changed my oil and took a ton of pictures. I will post a writeup tonight or tomorrow for those in the fence about changing theirs!

Agreed, Looks like they were just careless when they last changed your oil. Did you go to the dealership, are you seeing spots in your driveway? Keep an eye on your fill level make sure it stays the same.

cbielat, are you coming to the New England meet and greet next week end? Check it out here!! Hope to see you there

QJAKE- Yes I did have the oil change performed at a Toyota dealer. I should call and talk to them about it soon. I haven't seen any spots in my driveway so I see the general consensus being that the tech was careless.

If you had a pinched o-ring seal you'd probably have a heck of a lot more oil residue than that due to the engine oil pressure.

The tech doesn't care if the spillage on your filter housing gets cleaned up or not--most customers who have maintenance peformed at the dealer will never know. Most, if not all of them, aren't going to bother wiping down/cleaning the filter housing or the oil plug before reinstallation.

Agreed!

I'm not most people :wink2: They would be cleaning up that mess pronto! Their survey would raise eyebrows too :boink:

There's no excuse other than laziness for leaving that mess.
