“Oil Maintenance Required” Too Soon Issue

Why is everyone overlooking the OP's mileages for maintenance minder?

He said it came one at 4400, then 13000, then 18000. This means it does not come on every 4500 or every 5000...

This means it came on after 4400 miles, then again after 8600 miles, then after 5000 miles. Solid data, no conjecture, no assumptions..... it doesn't go off on a purely mileage based equation. If it did, it would come on at 5000, 10000, 15000, etc.

Has anyone else tracked miles traveled between oil change indicator?
 
The recommended interval is 10,000 miles, so I stick with that, or thereabouts. I’ve been faithful to do 3000-mile oil changes at times, and gone 15,000 miles at other times over the past 45 years. But I’ve never experienced an engine failure due to a lubrication problem. My view - stick with the manufacturer’s recommendation and don’t waste any more time on it than that.

I did the changes based on mileage not waiting to be reminded by the truck. It may have come on at the 13k interval but not at the 4.4k change.

Exactly, however I think its worse that that. I believe it is a purposeful attempt to deceive the owner and generate income.

If you didnt have much experience with automotive you would be driving your 4R to the dealership for an unneeded oil change. It should say "Maintenance Required". My wife's Honda 2018 TLX SHAWD says that and has a codes that specifically detail what needs to be done. Oil, or Oil and Filter, Rotate tires, Change diff. oil etc. How hard would it be for Toyota to do that ? Instead the app has the same maintenance item listed several times at the same milage point. Didn't anybody bother to check it before they released it?

This wording is just another example of how Toyota creates situations with their products designed to separate the owner from their money.

A couple examples:
the craptastic windshield (there are people here that are on there 4th windshield)
$900 door handles (cannot be replaced without replacing the entire door panel)

Well, that answers that. Doesn’t answer why OP states 4400 miles and then 13000 miles between light. OP reset light and forgot, maybe…

Drive shaft u-joints greased every 5K along with checking the infamous floor mats.

If the whack-ass'ed "Maintenance Indicator" was working like it was supposed to it should have gone on 4500 miles after the last reset at 8900 miles and I definitely do not remember it going on or resetting it then.
