Oil question

I just bought the runner 99 with 128k and I changed the oil to pennzoil ultra. Now I dnt know what the original owner used probably conventional oil. Would it hurt anything the change??

Absolutely not! Just make sure a good filter and keep changing frequently whatever your intervals may be.

Yes sir I got it at the dealership along with the oil filter.

Just curious. Do we need to change the gasket with each oil change? I dont change the oil myself and have to rely on the local garage to do that, wondering if they do that.

I doubt they change that gasket on the oil filter unless you provide it to them yourself and specifically ask they do so

I was going to ask the same question.

When you go to the dealer to ask for a gasket. The only thing that makes sense to me is asking for the crush washers for the drain plug.

I use aluminum or copper washers

There is some confusion here, methinks. Some are talking about the drain plug gasket (90430-12031) not the gasket on the filter itself. I also have never seen a filter that came without its own gasket.

The drain plug gasket is different. Manual recommends it be changed every time and that is best practice. I have never had a problem using one twice and I never do more than twice. Mostly I change them every time if I have one available. I have taken off ones of an unknown age installed by PO's or other mechanics that were in pieces or leaking due to excessive compression from multiple torque-downs.

As far as cyclops13, ask your mechanic what he does before the next change. I'm sure a lot of them change out with generic washers. There aren't that many sizes. I'm also sure there are plenty that will reuse beyond what is ideal.
