Oil residue above water pump- 2008 V6

What's going on here? I was poking around in the engine bay and noticed a black oily residue on the front of my engine. Two angles show: driver and passenger.

I also posted a week or so ago about a whine coming from the engine bay.

My mind is jumping to sludge or oil pump (both would be terrible).

Any thoughts?

160k miles. Bought it used with about 100k.

I'm not losing much oil. I've seafoamed the engine once, about a year ago.

I would get in there and clean it out real good. Then keep an eye on it and see if you can see where the leak is coming from. Honestly, its so small it might not be an issue or worth addressing especially if you can't notice decrease oil levels.

Damn. I'm really hoping this isnt the case.

Took a peak at the FSM and it looks like a pain
