Sure, I use Castrol 1 Synth.. Whichever you use stay with it. going back and forth will gum up your engine. And a WIX filter, NAPA brand is also made by WIX. And a new crush washer every time. And make sure you torque it down correctly. And use the search option next time before you ask about oil, tire sizes, wheels, and CB radios. :welcome:

After a bad experience with a non-OEM filter a few years ago I only use Toyota OEM oil filters. As far as oil goes I use 5w-30 full synthetic. I alway change the oil every 3,000mi.

Whats the point of using synthetic if your just gonna change it at 3000 miles? Just curious
Run synthetic, if only for sludge protection. Synthetic doesn't break down the same way as conventional and doesn't have the tendency to sludge.
Plus, you get the added bonus of not needing to change your oil but every 5k. Synthetic is much easier on the world and your engine, a win win.

Quaker State Ultimate Durability is an awesome, less expensive synthetic. Changing at 3K is going to be a huge waste of money. Your manual was written *a long* time ago in oil standards. At the very minimum I would bump it up to 5k running synth. Tech is always getting better. Manuals (and oil superstitions for that matter) cant keep up. Filters are subjective (like oils), but buy any quality filter and you will be fine. Considering that you have 207k, have you considered base-lining the entire vehicle? Just food for thought, GL!

I drive my personal vehicle about 5k miles a year since during the week I have a company truck.
Anyways, at the old school 3k/3mo I would be changing every 3 months long before I kit 3k. That being said, what intervals would you do with conventional and with synthetic?

Where did you hear going back and forth will gum up your engine? Synthetic oil is designed to work with conventional oil. Mix them, match them, run whatever you want, however you want. Just do it.
5w30 is on the cap, and in the manual. If we're talking brands, I like mobil 1 full synthetic. Just know that if your car has a leak somewhere, then synthetic oil will drip through the leak faster, and make it appear worse. That's what happened to me, and it showed me that I had a valve cover leak.

Modern conventional goes 5k. Synthetic has been shown to go much, much longer. At 7k, full synthetic should still have life to it.
3k is a myth. Some states are considering publishing data about it. The quick oil change industry has done a dang good job telling everyone more is better and it is a huge, huge, huge waste.
If you go full synthetic, you will be fine at 5k and honestly, 7500. Unless your engine is running bad, your oil should be fine. If your engine runs rich, lean or has some weak seals and allows more blow by gases into the oil you will be fine at 7500.
If you move to synthetic, you can do a 5k first time around and have the oil evaluated by one of the many companies that do it. They will tell you how your engine is wearing.

Don't buy in to the 3k/3month deal. Change it when it gets dirty. Use a white cloth or paper towel when you check the oil level and just check color while your at it. If you go light on the skinny pedal and run synthetic, 6-8k is fine.
7500 is the standard response. Someone in the 4gen posted a oil analysis for this full synthetic at a 7500 change. It was still perfectly fine and they suggested to run to 10k on it.
You have to decide and every engine is different, but the tech is so much better than even a decade ago. Mobile 1 makes 15k oil that has been chemically proven to be in perfect shape. The only issue about super long life oil is engine contaminants. Gas blow by, engine wear. New long life filters do an excellent job controlling them.
Mobil 1s long life filters are designed to last the 15k and control the contaminants. If you use a standard filter, than you can just change the filter half way.

I agree with not following the 3k deal, but the color of the oil doesn't necessarily relate to it needing to be changed. It could be dark and still have life left in it. Most modern oils have detergents in them, which causes sludge and particles to be suspended in the oil, causing a darker color. The oil can only hold so much though, but dark oil means it's working at protecting your engine. I would just stick with a mileage schedule based on driving habits, not by how the oil looks.

I agree with 5K being perfectly safe but with the amount I drive my 4Runner and Tacoma (they both run full synth) I hardly have to change my oil at all.
My DD however gets oil changes monthly.
