Hey does anyone know if a 4.0L tacoma oil cooler would work on our 4runners? I'm guessing it would but I wanna make sure.

Should work fine, just make sure you have a good place to mount it where there's lots of airflow. Also might want make sure the inlet and outlet holes are the same size. Nothing special about trans coolers, but the make all the difference in the world when your towing!

This is what I'm trying to put in. I've tried to look for a installed pic of a tacoma oil cooler but no luck. I just wanted a reference of where the toyota oil cooler was installed. I'm also going to get a transmission cooler but later. anyway this might be the cooler I'm getting. it's $100 while the Toyota one is like $500-$600

I was wondering how that oil cooler install went. I too have a 4.0 L 1GR-FE in my 4runner (2006 SR5). I know the engine has a internal trans cooler built into the radiator but I was wondering about an engine oil cooler. It looks like the only way to have one on the 4runner is add a sandwich plate and external cooler. Just looking for some insight.

I sold the ebay oil cooler and bought a OEM taco one and installed it on the same day as my apr x1 install. The thing that persuaded me was that both URD and APR recommended it as it both warms and cools the oil. its pricey but worth it especially if you push your motor. The oil filter adapter wasn't expensive its the water pump and pumping, plus the extra coolant needed.

Thanks for the insight guys. To instal the Taco cooler looks a little advanced for my expertise plus it's a little pricey. I think I am going with an external oil cooler and an inline tranny cooler. I am looking at the tru cool 4544 for the trans, any suggestions for the external oil cooler?
