I'm on my second time now tearing the front end apart. I had a howling noise in the front end. Replaced both wheel bearings, ball joints and tie rod ends while torn apart. Noise still persists. 2wd or 4wd. Up on jacks, no noise from rear. In 4wd, noise in front left sounds like. So rule out tires, front pinion bearing, ring and pinion gears. Had a slight bit of play up and down in the cv hub at the diff. So thought the axle shaft needle bearing was bad. Pulled the axle and it doesn't seem rough at all. So it's either spider gears, axle bearing or cv shaft, right? What else is turning in 2wd? Will a bad cv axle make a howling sound with a tire tread like vibration? This all started after I installed new tires(coincedence?) Any help would be appreciated. Also would a bad axle shaft bearing amplify the sound of the spider gears?
