Ok, seriously, how am I supposed to get to the plugs?

Here's the deal: I have a 95 4Runner, and I think the plugs are waaay overdue for changing, so I bought some plugs, and set out to do the job. I've changed the plugs in my parents' and ex-wife's cars before, so I had the tools, and I wasn't too worried. Then I saw where the dang plugs are.

How am I supposed to get to the plugs without taking the engine apart? I'm not kidding here- there is no way to reach these things from above or below without removing a crapload of hoses. Is that really what I have to do?

Ratchet, universal joint, extensions and some skin off your knuckles!

You forgot the tears of pain, then joy when you reach the "hard one".

Yep: a universal joint is a must have. Also there is something called a wobbler extension this is extremely useful. I use a one foot section of fuel line/rubber hose, to initially install the new plugs (to get the first couple of threads started) then I use the socket to drive then home.

The hose will help to prevent cross-threading.
