Okay what is the secret to the front defogger?

Having two other cars that have automatic climate control, I never had an issue with the front windshield fogging up but now it seems to be hit or miss, I keep having to mess with the climate controls to get it to not fog up or collect "condensation"

IMO it's all about the recirc setting. But where I live I don't have the humidity you get, thank god!

If your AC is working fine and air circulation is good (no clogged cabin filter?), then possibly moisture somewhere in the ductwork or in the vehicle? I've had wet-enough carpet in another vehicle, and until it dried out, the AC had a tough time removing all the moisture, especially with high ambient humidity. Ended up condensing on the cool windshield for awhile.

I thought in front defogger mode, the AC only works in non-recirc? I dont remember 100% as I haven't used it in a while, but I know my camry doesnt allow recirc with defog. When I do use it in winter it does take a long time for the fog to clear up. Maybe 5-6 minutes till it actually changes the windshield temp enough to clear the fog.

My 2012 SR5 defaults to outside air when the Defog is on. Does yours not do that?

jdm-v35 is correct, it automatically shuts off recirc and turns on ac, doesn't appear you can override it. The manual says "to defrost the windshield and side windows early, increase the air flow and temperature." I guess at some point in high humidity it will take some time to clear it.

my experience is if you have recirc on you can get fogging in many conditions.

you guys are most likely right and i am wrong, i will have to check again. Even with recirc on or off (whatever the car defaults to) I still have a hard time getting it right. Damn NC humidity.

Are you blowing cold air on it or hot?

Turn the heat on as high as it will go with the A/C on.

Quickest way to de-fog.

I have had to put the front defroster on and turn the heat up to high to dry it out while driving. This issue was it wasnt hot outside so it was warm until I could put the ac back on.

I have to turn on the defrost which turns off the re-circulation. turn the fan on to high speed and mess with the temp control (hot to cold) until it clears. once its clear its not too hard to keep it clear as long as you keep it switched to fresh all. Atlanta weather stinks too.

AH your in NC too! Ok, formula is:

Fan all the way up and on the hottest setting. Fog will go away after a min or two.

1. If the moisture is on the outside of the glass, the vents are likely blowing cold air. Condensation sticks to cold things when humidity is high and temperature is in the 50-65 degree range.

2. If the moisture is on the inside, the humidity in the vehicle is too high and cracking a window and/or engaging the A/C along with slightly warmer air temps will help remove the moisture.

Winter weather and more windshield fogging than usual.
But keeping the windshield clear in the defog “windshield” setting prevents you from recirculating the air if you get behind a diesel or drive through generally stinky areas.
My technique to keep the windshield fog free is to set the air vent selector knob position between the “foot” and “foot+windshield” settings. With the temperature set however you want it and good fan speed you get some air blowing on the feet and windshield. Plus you can keep it on recirculate. If you start fogging up anyway try increasing the fan speed, and turn the A/C on for a while to rapidly clear it. Then turn off the A/C if you want. Or just leave it on.

Note that when you turn off the ignition then turn it on again the recirculate function is reset to bring in outside air.

If recirculation is on, you’ll get more condensation. Switch to outside air.
