Old Alarm issues

My 91 runner has a MaxiGuard 3 alarm for which I have no remote for. If I disable the battery it will set off the alarm when I reconnect power. This requires a juggle of button pushing and key turning till it will start and I haven't nailed down the sequence, I just get lucky eventually. I hate this thing and want it out before it strands me in the boonies. Any idea if this is as simple as finding the power source and cutting it? Any bits of wisdom? I'm thinking of just taking it to an alarm company and let them deal with it but I'm cheap.

I wouldn't just cut power to it, you're likely to disable your truck. I'd trace and map out every wire that splices into your harness, make sure you know what those wires are, and make a plan for splicing the factory harness back together.

Concur. All an alarm does is cut off power somewhere in your wiring, usually ignition. If you're comfortable diving into that wiring:
Find your schematic,
Find that alarm circuit (box)
See which wire in your ignition was cut and the alarm inserted into, post schematic here so we can review before you do anything.

Forget the unreliable after-market alarm that thieves have already figured out, and put you own simple kill switches (for ignition, for starter, for fuel, e) that only you or your fellow driver knows where they're located.

That's what KidV and I are saying, but just doing so without understanding where it interrupts power is a tow bill already happening.

Thanks guys. After looking at wiring under the dash I talked to an alarm store owner and he said he could disable it. I don't want to mess with it. Then I will put in a fuel cut off switch.

I thought I'd post a followup. The alarm store took it all out for $35. It now starts without the slight hesitation (half second or so) it always had when turning the key. This should have been done right when I bought it.
