It looks like I'm about to pull the trigger on my 4th consecutive 4runner (Previous: '94,'97 & '05 SR5), a left-over 2012 SR5, El Strippo except for the Convenience package and the Auto-dim RV mirror with Back-up Camera display. Any comments on what's good/bad about the 5th gen would be appreciated.

Good Call on the 2012 model. Probley my 2 biggest complaints about my 5th gen would be the move from the Manual Transfer Case lever, to the Rotatory Dial (Similar to the limited), and the stupid Air Injection System, which adds a bunch of junk to your engine and engine bay. Both of these were added in 2013...

I literally have the same set up. Just enough bells and whistles for me. I didn't see any negatives, unless you want things like leather. Don't have to worry about messing with KDSS or XREAS if you mod it. I guess the negative is if you liked having those features and leave it stock. I didn't drive any other 4Runner than the one I bought so I don't know how those systems behave but most people like them. What kind of price are you getting. I picked up mine for $34k but that was Feb of '12. I imagine you should be able to pick it up for $30-32k.

Why are you getting rid of your 4th Gen?

It has 250,000 *hard* miles & my wife wanted something less likely to need major repair. She's paying for it, so why not?

2012 was a very good year

2012 may be the best year for the 5th Gen as stated in the posts up above ^

No air gizmo
No extreme cafe standards (future looks bleake)
Early probs resolved IMO

And yes the other Gens WERE nice but now they are......well, old. No offense if you have taken care of yours.

I was too cheap/poor in the 90's to get a 3rd gen, but I must say that I still think the 3rd gen is the perfect Runner! But I don't regret buying my 5th gen either, which i also love!

Hmmm, seems I keep hearing good reasons why I got an end of season 2012 instead of pickingup a '13. Happy with my decision. I always thought the transfer case dial was a weird "upgrade"(?) looks really out of place sitting there.

And I thought I only went with the '12 vs. the '13 because of price... Apparently I unknowingly made an awesome choice! I do enjoy the transfer case lever though. Hauling that thing back and blowing past cars spinning up a hill in deep snow makes me feel a little better about myself!!

Horn, headlight hazing, lumbar seat, driveshaft redesign for no thump and at east for me brake feel.

The model you're looking at is just fine. I personally believe that when it comes down to it, the models aren't that much different...especially if you're into modifications.

Biggest thing you'll notice from your 05 SR5 in the winter is they dropped the Torsen center diff on SR5's in 2010 which are hard to beat in the snow and it's now a part time system.
