Old Man Emu springs and shocks.

I have 883 coils on 90021 shocks in front and 895E OME coils with 90004 shocks in rear. It has a 5mm OME spacer on driver's side to keep it level. Tires are 265/70/17 Michelin MS2. Gives it a nice stance without being too tall in my opinion. Still has a little rake which I like. Originally I had xreas. The truck is a 2007 v6 4x4 sport so its the same as yours. I don't know how to post pics from another post I made so I will link to it so you can see various pics and lift height. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/2018721-post3789.html. As far as ride is concerned, it is definitely more truck like but not harsh. Even with the 90021 struts it is noticeably firmer than stock. It takes turns about as fast as xreas but with more body roll. I also have spidertrax spacers and highway tires so I don't know if that helps in cornering. When it comes to crazy pot holes and stuff it is truly unbelievable in my opinion. Currently I have 139,000 miles. I had the truck since new so I know how it rides at all mileages.

Hey thanks for that Spanvss888.

I checked out your pics in the link. Looks good I like it!!

I am also going to go with 265/70/17 when I buy new tires. Currently running 265/65/17 so the tires will likely look a tad undersized/goofy until they're replaced. Oh well.

I think your lift looks nice but I want just a more. So I am going with 884 front coils and 895 rear coils. Should give me a bit more lift that you and still a slight rake.

You said you have 90004 rear shocks, I think you mean 60004? Choices are 60004, 60005,

http://www.arbusa.com/uploads/PDF/accessorizeYourRig/toyota4Runner.pdf

I am still undecided on the front struts. On the rear probably going to go with the softer 60004.

On the front, well, maybe I should stick with the same theme and go with the softer 90021? I plan to buy softer riding P rated tires instead of C or D.

In the fall we hammer down a lot of nasty roads hunting and fishing and I want this OME set up to soak up the bumps like a quad. Well, okay that is overly optimistic, but I am really hoping when we test out the new OME set up we say....wow....what a diff! It rides like a dream on these crap roads!

Just a few more thoughts/questions/observations:

On Toytech's website if you want to buy the OME full suspension kit, they ONLY list the 90000s as an option for the front struts.

OME full suspension -- Click here for details

However, if you just want to buy a set of OME front struts, you can go with either the 90000 or the 900021.

OME 90021 Front Shocks (05 & UP Tacoma/07-09 FJ/03-09 4Run)

What the heck? Odd they don't give you the option of the 90021 if you're buying the full kit...

Also...

On the Toytech site, if you are buying the full OME kit they list...

1- Front diff drop kit ($30). "No" is the option if you have 2WD, which would lead on to think that "yes" is the proper anser if you have 4WD, which I do.

Can someone kindly explain what this is/does, and if I "need" it for the 885/895 coil swap with (eventually) 265/70/17 tires?

2- Front trim spacer 5mm (OME 95PF5). Would ya'll advise getting this? And is it only for the driver's front? Or driver's front and rear? On ARB's site they only list front spacer, nothing for rear.

3- Rear shock stone guards. Oddly I don't see them listed on ARB's website, but Toytech offers them. Seems like a good idea for $30.

Hi I'm sorry I didnt reply sooner. I had a busy week!

You are correct about the rear struts being 60004.

I first saw the OME lift with the 90021 front with 883 coils and 60004 rear struts with 895E rear coils on Slee offroad's website. Cristo Slee is one of the top Toyota truck overland experts in the country. He didn't have the above mentioned suspension kit in stock so I ordered it from Wheelers offroad.

DO get the driver's side spacer! Many people say they have slight driver's lean after the install. Wheeler's offroad strongly recommended I get it also.

I agree that you should go with 884 and 895 rear instead of what I have. I got the 883/895E combo because I had brand new tires that will last several years and I paid a lot for them and the truck would look ridiculous with a taller lift because of the tires. Do go with a offroadish tire like BFG ta ko2 because a passenger tire will be too small in my opinion. Personally I would go a little bigger than 265/70/17 with the 884/895 setup. Or at least a knobby tire in that size.

The 90021 front and 60004 rears already ride like an unloaded pickup truck and I have P rated tires. You are definitely not getting a squishy shock if you go with those. I have driven over very choppy roads, and in construction sites that are undriveable by a normal car and the OME suspension rode like a dream. I can not imagine what those fancy icon or king suspensions would drive like because the OME setup rode super smooth and controlled.

I haven't heard of anyone needing the front diff drop kit.

I haven't driven the 4runner with the OME suspension in our hunting property upstate new york which has trails with steep, muddy, seriously rutted inclines, shallow water crossings (more like large puddles) and hidden, fairly large rocks in the tall grass in some parts. I have driven it with the stock XREAS setup and it wasn't bad at all except for bending my skid plate on one of those hidden rocks. Much better than my father's Ford f250. I imagine with my OME setup the 4runner would ride like a dream.

Yo! No worries, busy time of year! Thanks for that reply, a lot of good info in there. A few thought and questions....

-I think your vehicle looks quite sharp with the 883/895e lift, and the 265/70/17 Michelin M+S tires. I have had those tires on several vehicles in the past - love them! However they do not have enough grip for where we go hunting and fishing in the fall, so it's AT for me.

-While I think a tire bigger than 265/70/17 would look quite nice, I think I'll stick with this size when I buy new tires. We put on a lot of highway miles and I want as gas mileage as close to the OME size of 265/65/17 as I can get! There is also 255/75/17 which I believe is the same size tire, but I personally don't care for the look of the 255s. Buddy of mine has I think...285/75/17 on his 4 runner and they look sharp!! But I think they only came in D or perhaps E load range, and he said he was a bit surprised by the drop in his gas mileage. The Duratarc comes in P rated 265/70/17 which is what I plan to go with.

-I think with knobby tires in this size and the 884/895 lift it will look sharp.

-After thinking it over I plan to go with the 90021 and 60004. Should ride awesome!!

-As far as the 5mm driver's side spacer goes...I am assuming you need one for the front and rear?

Thank you for the kind words!

I agree with you about the gas mileage. I noticed a drop in mpg even with sightly upsized highway tires.

The duratracs I heard are great tires. Good choice!

The 5mm spacer is only for the front. The rear doesn't need anything additional.

I think you will be very happy with the setup you are leaning toward.

Good luck and post pics!

I have an 06 v6 SR5. I went with 885's + the top spacer (from toytec) because I planned on (and still plan on) installing a DO front bumper.

I opted to go with toytec rear superflex coils.

Nitro shocks all around. It sits high - I believe my measurements are 4.5 inches of lift (from center of wheel). I cleared enough for 285 / 75 / 16 without having to do any trimming or body-mount chop.

I don't know if the DO bumper will change things, but it has been a rougher ride than I anticipated.

Note my order below:

Thanks spanvs888 and scotblink23.

Well, it is settled. The suspension shop where I'm getting the work done is an ARB dealer and they specialise in Toyotas. If the owner disagrees with the package I want him to install of course I'll consider what he has to say and possibly change my mind. If he gives it the green light it'll be:

884 front springs with 90021 struts
895 rear springs with 60004 shocks
Driver's side, front only, 5mm spacer
Rear shock rock guards.

When the Cooper Discoverer AT3's in 265/65/17 are done I plan to put on 265/70/17 P rated Duratarcs.

From pictures I have seen on this site it should come out looking how I want and ride from the OME package should be SWEET!

I'll take before and after measurements and pictures and post them on this thread.

Great stuff all!!! Thanks for taking the time to post this information in one place. I posted an OME question on the suspension sticky and I haven't heard thoughts yet so I thought I would ask here.

112,000 mile 2004 V-8 with 2 1/2 1 1/2 Daystar spacers and XREAS -
XREAS is leaking so I am UPGRADING!!! I am looking for nutral to factory rake and I definitely don't want to be nose high. I am not interested in a true Coil Over as I am a simple man...

1st chice
*Front - OME 885 with 90021 struts and 5ml trim packer
*Rear - Toytec Superflex 2.0 HD with 60020 struts (going to reinstall my Airlift 1000 bags for towing)
??? Shoulld I add the top plate spacers with this option?

2nd choice
*Front - OME 885 with 90021 struts and 5ml trim packer
*Rear - OME 895 with 60004 struts (going to reinstall my Airlift 1000 bags for towing)

Please share your thoughts opinions -
Thanks!!!

4.5" is a lot of lift. Did you have any problem with alignment after lifting?

Thanks.

I went with a slightly modified OME/Toytec lift and its perfect IMO. I have an 04 V-8 and went with OME 895/90021 in front and a Toytec RCC2.0HD rear spring with OME 60020 in the rear. The RCC2.0HD gives an extra 1/2" lift (2 1/2) with a spring that is roughly 25% stiffer than stock. When empty it does ride stiff, but not too stiff. However, when I've got 4 passengers and gear it's perfect and my T4R rides level. When pulling a 2500 lb PUP it rode level as well without airbags. I'm now pulling a 4500 lb travel trailer with WDH and it also tides level. My .02

Nice. How much lift did you get?

Nice. How much lift did you get?

It's a bit hard to say exactly 'cause I came off worn out shocks, springs and a spacer lift. My best guess is 3" in front and about 2 1/2" in back from stock. It hasnt settled much and she is still sitting at 23" from hub center to fender in front and 24 1/2" in the back. I am also running a trim spacer on drivers front which kept the numbers in front equal.

Thanks for the info. I think I will go with 885 front and 895 in the back, hoping for a slight rake. Mine is a V6

Did you do diff drop? No trouble with alignment?

I have the diff drop, but not installed yet. I haven't noticed any binding, but for $30 bucks I thought it would be good preventative maintenance.

My alignment was ok with the exception of castor. I replaced upper UCA's with Camburg BJ UCA's and I'm now getting 2 degrees of castor which isn't quite in spec, but my T4R drives straight, doesn't float around, and is much better than the 0 degrees I started with. Camber and toe are in spec and they were in spec before upgrading the UCA's.

I think the 885's could be a bit stiff for your V-6 and the RCC 2.0 HD's are 1/2" longer than the 895's if your looking for more rake, but not quite as stiff. If your running plate bumpers and/or a winch you should be ok with the 885's. I'm very pleased with the way my sus upgrade turned out.

Positive caster should make the truck more stable. Is UCA a mandatory upgrade with 3" lift?

I haven't decide whether to get a bumper. I don't think animal strike is a big concern in the southwest US. The draw back with a bumper is a couple of hundred pounds hanging in the very front of the truck, not good for handling. But a winch sounds good, thus I am leaning toward 885 in the front, room for future upgrade. :)

No, I wouldn't say UCA's are mandatory with a 3" lift. When I was at 2 1/2 with spacers I was at 2.5 degrees of Castor and no problem. Some feel that anything below 3 their T4R gets squirly. I haven't noticed that issue with mine. However, when I was at 0 before replacing UCA's it did get a bit floaty on the highway which is why I replaced UCA's. Now I'm G2G.

Looks great! Did you install top plate spacers in the front? I know you don't have them listed and noted the trim packer but I just wanted to be sure. Also, did you use the original top mounts and/or did you have Toytec assemble the fronts with new top mounts and bushings?

edit: Never mind I checked your build thread and see the fronts were assembled.

I just added the trim spacer and I didn't use any top plate spacers.

Sorry for the delayed response - no not at all. I was able to get close to spec with OEM UCAs and once I upgraded to my current UCA setup, everything was inline. I've had the lift for over a year and it's settled about 3/4 of an inch but I'm still happy with +3.5 up front.
