OME 890 and sus. spacers

Ok so a while back I put 1.5" sus. spacers on all around. Stock springs/shocks. That lifted the front about 3" and the rear about 2", ballpark. The key here is that I was slightly bulldogged. Coupled with the fact the rear sagged with ANY load I bought some 890s for the rear. So I got those put on yesterday and I told the shop to not use the spacers (that's correct right?) but of course they did anyway. So now the rear is about 1.5-2" higher than the front. Besides being too high, this seems really bad for the parts underneath, right? So am I correct in wanting to take it back and have them take out the rear sus. spacers?

Bonus question: I know the stock springs are really soft but these 890s are crazy bouncy. Is there anything I can do to soften them up a little?

As long as you have shocks the correct length, the rear of our 3rd gens can see up to 5" of lift without many issues. I'd def suggest a pan hard drop bracket + longer shocks.

Add a little weight.

Ok so maybe I should leave it as is? How do I know if the shocks are the right length? I'm guessing the stock shocks weren't designed for this much lift..

The 1.5" spacers on the rear is not really that bad. But your getting 4" rear lift. You will need longer shocks. Some oem stock rear shocks from land cruisers are a good long shock that is reasonably priced. Research tokico lc shocks on this forum to find more info. Also bending rear brake line bracket down for more clearance and longer rear sway bar links are recommended. You can purchase some moog rear links for 2nd gen 4runner that are 1" longer and bolt right in.

Or have the spacers removed.

Almost 4.5 years with the 890's in the rear and they show no sign of fading or softening up when driving empty.
I got the 'recommended' OME shocks with them, and my impression of these shocks is that they are rough and have less sophisticated damping than the Bilsteins on my old Toyota 4WD truck.
A couple hundred pounds of stuff in the back takes the edge off, and about 300-400+ pounds in the rear smooths them out nicely.
I cannot imagine adding spacers to these...they're pretty tall already.

JayRolla and pluton nailed it

I also did 890s in the rear and carry 100-200# on average, it's a nice ride.

I got "longer" shocks, which are are SportComps, and a longer brake hose from Toytec when I ordered by springs.

My next suspension upgrade is 5100s in the front with 99 tall coils (or toytec coils) just waiting to do my front bumper at the same time.

Thanks guys, I guess I'll take it back and have them remove the spacers. Hopefully it doesn't sit lower than the front again.

Have longer shocks installed at the same time if you're gonna pay for labor. Those springs give you a 3" lift with no weight in the rear, which already puts the OEM shock close to full extension.

Ugh.

I wish I could go back and never have done any of this, such a waste of money.

Your decision was not a bad one, all 3rd gen 4runner rear springs sag, and freshening up the original shocks also not a bad decision - especially if adding a lift.

The best take away from this situation: research first, pull trigger second.

There is an entire community of guys here that have tried it all, many failed before you; take advantage of that. :loco:

890 vs. spacer or 891

So this is a great question as I am currently facing a decision myself. I've had the 890's on for about a year and a half. But since installing them I've done some work in the back of the Runner including a steel bumper (and occasionally towing). I have so far lost about 1/2" since originally installing the 890's. Not the end of the world but I've developed a slight bit of that butt sag back which I cannot stand. I am deciding now between adding spacers or switching to the 891's. Only reason I worry about the 891 is how folks talk that the ride is just too stiff for our rigs. When I off-road, particularly in the rock gardens, I already get butt wobble. I just assume the 891's would give me even more wobble. I have zero complaints about the ride comfort of the 890 both on and off road it's just that I have permanently added about 220lbs on the back of my rig and even more when I load up for a trip. I spoke with the Toytech guys and they said I could go either way and I'd probably be equally as happy with the results.

I have the 890's and the 10mm spacers on mine and it was level with the front. Put stuff in the back and it looked sagged. I hated that so I took the 10mm spacers out and added the daystar spacers and I love it now. No issues and I don't have a panhard drop. I'm running the ome shocks I got with the 890's.

Oh I wish, thank you.

How tall are the daystar spacers you put on?
