OME 906 + Daystar Top Spacers (front)

So I've come to the realization that my rear suspension is pretty much worthless. I only get about 1" of travel before mashing into the bumpstops and I can easily bottom it out with one hand. My fronts seem pretty happy/stiff, it doesn't budge when I put all of my weight into the front end (not bottomed out either).

That being said, I can't afford the full replacement quite yet and so I'm thinking about doing half now, half later:
Rear: OME 906 + OME Comforts (60028?)
Front: 99 coils with 1" daystar top spacers

All said and done, I would like a small lift, but I put a lot of miles on the rig so I'm not trying to go crazy high (nor do I want to deal with the chaos that ensues with each increment of lift). Also, I would like to be able to put a decent load in the back end w/o sagging.

Will the 906's and comforts give me more load capacity while still maintaining a pretty smooth ride? How level would you expect it to sit with this f/r combo? Thanks in advance for your insight!

You'll have too much negative rake. I ran '99 talls with a 1/4" top spacer and 906's with 10mm spacers on my '99 and it was almost level, rear was slightly higher but not much. I think without the 10mm spacers outback it would've been almost level.

Only other suggestion I'd give is to run Bilstein HD's as opposed to the OME shocks, I think it'll ride better. Look at AJUSA.com for the Bilsteins, great prices.

If you're on a budget, try just adding the 906 rear springs and see how you like it. If your struts are worn out then by all means have those changed as well, but I don't think you even need a front spacer, I don't run one and have a small positive rake. The 906's will definitely add some load capacity while riding nicely.

I have the '01 springs and the daystar 1" spacer in front and the 906's right now on my 4runner. I think the truck sits a little taller in front, like 1/8"...and that is unloaded. You would be too nose high with the '99 coils. I would not run more than the 3/8" top spacer on there. just my opinion. I like the ride of this setup too.

Ok, thanks for the helpful replies. I have conjured up more questions and confusion though...

Does anyone know the stock spring rate for front or rear? I can't find it ANYWHERE.

I found these specs for the OME springs (http://www.cruiseroutfitters.com/tech_OME_coils.html):
890 --> 190 lbf/in; ~16.75"
891 --> 210 lbf/in; ~16.15"
906 --> 220 lbf/in; ~15"

So, it looks to me like the 906's should have the stiffest spring with the least lift. I just want to make sure that whatever I put on my truck isn't going to sag with a load (spare and hitch always; dog+gear+?!?! on weekends)

From what I hear, i'll only get 1" at best with 906's relative to my '99 coils so I'm starting to consider either adding spacers (all around) to the mix or opting for the 891s. From what I recall reading, the Billstein 51xx series shocks are best with the 891s - is that due to the extended travel of the shock? (forgive me if I'm beating a dead horse here, I've read so many conflicting threads and the engineer in me won't just go buy something w/o my own research and understanding).

906's will give you a nice bump over '99 talls, especially if the '99's have some miles on them. I gained almost 2" replacing my old '99 talls with 906's.

I would go with OME 890's as opposed to 891's. The 891's are designed for added weight like a rear bumper and tire carries set up. Unless you constantly have a lot of weight in the back I think the 890's would serve you better. Assuming you don't think the 906's are enough for you.

Personally, I'd stay away from spacers.

906's out back with '99 talls and a 1/4" spacer up front makes a pretty good rig.

Here's what that set up looks like

That is about the stance I'm looking for, thanks for those pics, that helps visualize it a lot. My rear is squating pretty badly. I'm thinking your setup might be a good fit for my rig...

Do you have a hitch? If you put your weight on the rear bumper, does it sag much?

Truck looks GREAT PBR!

I've got the same setup with no front spacer with a hitch, so long as the trailer isn't tongue heavy, the truck doesn't really squat at all with the trailer on. I'm pulling a double ski-doo trailer, I'm guessing about 1500-1800lbs total, and very dependent on how you load the sleds as to the tongue weight.

^ Thanks Ian. That's actually my old one. Still kicking myself for selling it.

OP, I actually removed the hitch from this one because it looked like sh*t. I sold my motorcycles so I never really pulled anything anyway.

I was pretty happy with this set up. I mated it with Bilstein HD's all the way around. It was firm but comfortable. If you're sagging in the rear now, the 906's will really bring it back to life. If i had kept this one I was going to swap out the front '99 talls for 881's. But all in all I really liked this set up.

I am only seeing Bilstein fronts on AJUSA (24-187244)... do you have the part numbers handy? Toytec has the 5125s for $200...

It's not clear to me why the 890's have a lower spring rate than the 891's though (according to that link anyway)...

I run 906's in the back with about 7k on them, and 98 struts in the front with 230k on them and it's about level.

Ok, last question... for now.

Will those billies work with the 881/890 springs or is that where the 5100/5125s are better?

Id get the 906s now

i ran 99 talls & 906s in back for a while and really liked it. I never had to use any spacers up front. My truck had maybe a .5" forward rake and looked great.

Right now im running 906s with 10mm trim packs and a tundra TRD front end. Pretty much level and the rides great.

Your other options up front might be OME 880s or a salvage yard tundra TRD front end.
