OME+Bilstein 5100 question

I was up over 3" using the 5100s on their lowest setting and the OME 884 springs (5100 and Superflex in the rear) which was completely contrary to what OME says the lift would be. It's been two weeks since I made the change and I haven't measured again yet but I don't think it has settled any more than 1/4" at most. It was Ark Swamp Rider's advice that kept me from making the mistake of using setting 2 or 3 on the Bilsteins. Everything aligned to spec though when I was under the truck last night greasing the drivetrain and putting the brush guard back on I could see the alignment changes and there's not much adjustment left. The guy who does my alignments recommended I stop back after a few weeks for a check to make sure everything is still good after settling. No need for new UCAs for me.

That's great to hear, thanks for the input. This was the other thing I was wondering about if I will need aftermarket UCA's. Though, I did get the 885's, which should lift a little higher.. I guess I'll just wait and see.

Im running my 5100's at full lift with Toytec 620lb front springs and the ever awesome OME 895's in the rear also with 5100's. When empty, yes, just a little firm, but it handles the street like a sports car. But, when wheelin and have all my gear in the back, full fuel ect, the truck sits exactly level if not a little low in the rear. The rear OME coils ride and handle every bit of terrain, fast powerline roads with small whoops, whasboards and dips, slow rollin, and in 4lo perfectly. Just remember gang that while soft coils help articulate, we are all running bigger tires which weigh more, along with all the other add ons we all have. Every bit of accessory we put on or in, adds weight. A good properly valved shock and heavier spring when chosen correctly makes our rigs come to life.
All I can say, is that for a 100% bolt on off the shelf suspension system the 5100's, Toytec 2" front springs and the OME 2" rear coils are a perfect all around performance kit. This truck handles safer and better on and off road.
If I could change anything with this system, it would be the valving of the front shocks. But then, I could do that if I purchased the Fox's or King shock packages, which ultimately I will do at some point so I can dial in the handling exactly how I like it. But again, for 100% off the shelf, this combo kicks ass and cant be beat! Thanks

Happy America day everyone...

Hopefully someone can help me out with this, I can't seem to find a straight answer for my application anywhere.

1) What is the correct orientation of the washers/bushings on the front AND rear Bilstein shocks? My shocks came with all the hardware, but no instructions on order of the parts. I've seen many posts with different instructions, just want a straight *and correct* answer :becky:
2) The rear "trim packer"(yellow spacer in photo).. The opening in the middle does not look wide enough that my cone shaped bump stop will fit through it. Does it go: body, spacer, bump stop, spring? Whats the order for that?

Thanks again. I'm going to hit some BBQ's today and tackle this tomorrow. You guys have fun and be safe!

This shows the orientation for the front:

2005 Toyota 4Runner Parts - Conicelli Parts Center

And on the rear from top to bottom it should be nut, washer, bushing, frame, bushing, washer, and shock.

For the rear trim packer, you have it correct. The spacer sits on top of the bump stop. The trim packer is lower in the center than outer edge (there is a top and bottom).

Thanks ARK.. So the washers are cupped, I'm assuming this is the way they should sit. Also, the bushings have a raised center, assuming that will fit into a spot on the frame as well.

So you ended up setting the front 5100's to what notch?
What is your alignment like? Are you running aftermarket UCA's?

I set them to the 2nd notch. My alignment is not perfect but have had no noticeable effect on my tires as far as uneven wear is concerned. This is only after about 12k miles. I don't drive much each day.

Not to resurrect an old topic or anything

But.....

How was the ride with the billies and OME 895 in the rear?

I like it just fine. If you've driven a truck, it is not as stiff as that. But I put 900 lbs of concrete in the back last week and while it definitely sagged it wasn't bad. I tow a boat, so I wanted the extra weight capacity.

Going to revive this again, just a quick question what was the actual lift you got?

I have am scheduled to have front 885 and rear 895 on my 05 V8 on Tuesday. I plan on puttin gthe 5100 on the stock level perch but want to know what type of actual lift i might expect.

That's a 3" front/2" rear lift. Initially may be a little higher until it settles

is that on a stock ride? Ive got approximately 150lbs extra with a winch, hybrid bumper, skids, sliders, and an extra battery coming and im trying to decide between the 885 and 887s on the 5100s, going for about 2.5" of lift in front.

*this is all due to my drivers side 6112 leaking... these have been on for maybe 45k or so and i had them on the springs bilstein sells with them on the 4/5 perch setting

What did you end up going with on the fronts? I am in the same dilemma.

Nobody got back to me, so i still havent decided on a spring weight to order. though I did realize i made that post int he 4th gen section (and i have a 5th gen) :drama:

I will eventually figure it out, I just never want to have to change front spring weight ever again. Thats why I am taking my time with the decision.

Sorry that doesnt really help you out :hippie:
