OME replacement chip key - NOT from stealership

does anyone know where to get an OME chip key for toyota?

I've bought a couple off eBay and the quality is just not good.

thanks for your help guys! just want a couple extras since loosing the only one i have would be a nightmare. i have a limited which requires a chip key for security

Just make sure you have a master key and not a valet key. Cannot make copies with a valet key.
Your right about the quality. Those Ebay keys are hollow, but they're fine for spares.

how can i verify that i have a master key and not a valet one?...

it starts the car. is that good enough?

Put it in your glove compartment lock. If it locks and unlocks it then you have a master key. The master key opens and operates everything. (ignition, doors, rear hatch, rear window, and glove compartment) The valet key only works the ignition and doors.

problems>?? no real problems... except i haven't been able to program them,.... and they are hallow and light and don't feel like i could step on them and they would last....

hoping someone has a good OEM source for CHIP toyota keys....

My Ebay purchased chipped keys came with instructions and programmed easily. I agree with OP that they "feel" different (lighter)--but they work.

I bought 2 of these -

get it cut then you can program it like this -

1.Simultaneously depress and release brake and accelerator pedals 1 time.
2.Insert master key into ignition
3.Within 15 seconds depress and release accelerator pedal 5 times.
4.Within 20 seconds depress and release the brake pedal 6 times and remove key.
5.Within 10 seconds insert new key into ignition.
6.Within 10 seconds depress and release the accelerator pedal 1 time.
7. security light on dash will blink, after 80 seconds new key is registered and security light goes off.
8.Remove new key and depress and release brake pedal 1 time.

I'll have to get one of these and try it. I have the master key and the dealer told me another key would be $45 (I think) plus an hour's labor to program it to the ECM, for a total of about $100.

While not cheap, I purchased an extra key and had it programmed at Home Depot of all places. I think the total was $70. This was half the price quoted from the dealership. Plus, with Home Depot, if there was a problem with the actual key or chip-I could get it fixed easily. Not necessarily so with the eBay keys.

I have a 02 Sport SR-5 with 2 keys that look to be OEM, one key will open all of the doors,glove box,rear hatch,and operate hatch glass,but will not start the vehicle. The other key will start the vehicle,but will not work on any doors or glove box,but will lower & raise the back glass, The fob will lock & unlock all doors including hatch,and will lower the hatch glass. Just stating this in case someone else with the same setup can confirm.

On this issue, be thankful you don't live in Canada! Everything is more expensive here, but car keys are ridiculous! At the dealership here in the Sault, they want $384 for one chip key (programming included - how generous!), and $640 for a key with Fob! .............. I kid you not! :crazy:

So I really appreciate the info above on how to program my own.

I got my key, got it cut (old key pretty worn but good enough). Programmed it in 3 minutes - works great. Thanks all.

are you talking about programming the FOBB or the KEYY????
