My air compressor is tiny compare to that monstrous thing! I am sure my air compressor is on the cheap side. It is about 1/2 a foot long. It is not particularly powerful, but it does it's job well (if you have enough patience).
I will get the brand name later...i am away from my 4runner at this time.
For me, small size is more important than how fast you can inflate your tires. My thing fits nicely within the rear cargo cubby hole. I think that you don't need to get as big as the one above...that's too big and too much $$$$.
But, if you're big into off-roading and you need to air down constantly, then that air compressor is pretty nice to have.:gaptooth:

15psi-36psi for all 4 tires took about 5 min total!!!!

I like the idea of the bigger compressor and heavier duty cycle being on board, even if you don't go offroad. But I don't see how you fit it in the engine compartment, especially if you have an air tank, too, so you can run some tools.
Now, getting the Finance Minister to agree to $400 for a compressor (more expensive than the one in the garage) is another thing..... :blulaugh:

Here's a quick write up I did. Has a few pictures for your liking
You can add an external tank too but that won't fit in the engine bay. As for the location, I'd say try the spare tire section (that's if you get a rear bumper w/ tire brackets) or there is plenty of space by the front bumper.
When I get my steel bumper I plan to make sure I have room for the tank there too

Yes, there is plenty of room right behind the bumper. It looks like you could simply strap the tank to the bumper and have the air hose hookup coming out the front of the stock bumper so it is very convenient.
Wiring looks pretty simple, and the parts should be fairly easy to do, too.
Two questions after reading your link:
1. What did you actually mount the compressor to? Did you drill holes through the fender well? It also looks like the regular ExtremeAire will be too long there so some bracket is needed -- the Junior may fit since it's only 10" long.
2. Did you mount the start switch inside the cab (one of the blanks to the left of the steering column) or just put it under the hood?

The mounting of it fits directly where I mounted mine. I did have to drill some holes and pick up some washers/nuts/screws from the local Home Depot though. (not a big deal)
When I got my extremeaire, they didn't have the junior so ... But all I can say is it's one dope air compressor Fits perfectly (nice and tight).
The switch is located in the dash right by the left side of the steering column as you state. Easy to wire up too so even a rookie can get this to work.

Did you ever install an air tank? I was looking at places for one (2 gallon is the smallest I have found so far), and the only places I could come up with were in front of the radiator (put a couple of bars to link the bumper to the brace in front of the radiator) or behind the running board.
Since I want to keep the spare, there is no room under there.
You find another place?

I don't have a tank yet and as of right now I'm not sure if I"m gonna get one for awhile. I've used the compressor for airing up only currently so there's really no need for the tank.
But if I were to get one, I'd prob say I'd be storing it in the front with my new steel bumper eventually though (in time...).
I thought about putting on in the rear (spare tire area) but I decided not to as I'd like to get a custom rear bumper and a tire carrier and have Downey create a custom secondary gas tank there
So this really only leaves me with storing the tank in the front. There's plenty of room there so that's probably where I'll end up putting it (if and when.... one of the last things on my list).
