On the edge - should I take the leap?

Long time reader, first time post here. First off, you guys freakin rock! Thanks for all the effort spent helping first timers like myself out. The amount of info here is to educate a first time 4R buyer is dizzying - sunroof grinds, seat pops, driveshaft bumps - awesome, but dizzying.

I've spent the last six months or so researching and patiently waiting on a good condition 05/06 4wd Sport Ed 4R (less than 50k miles). I'm in the Phoenix area and this market doesn't have a huge supply and seems pretty proud of the ones that are available.

So here's my dilemma, just looked at a beautiful 06 SE V6 4wd. LOADED and immaculate, but $24k (37k miles). Seems a little steep to me, but crap is this thing clean. Too clean - I'd feel guilty taking it on a dirt road let alone doing some actual 4 wheeling! I'm considering pulling the trigger, although I was really hoping to get something more in the $16-$18k range.

Talk me off the cliff here. Maybe I'm looking for an insane deal just to feel good about the purchase, or maybe this a good value given the condition of the rig. Second opinions welcome.

Sounds like a beautiful truck! I bought my '05 SE with 25k miles for $20k. It was originally priced at $27 and I talked them down to a little over $20k. See what you can do!

That price is silly, should be in the 20k range.

That vehicle if at a dealer should be certified. If private you can get an extended no problem.

i would say find somethin a little cheaper maybe starting in the 20's

Thanks for the thoughts so far. I would have definitely jumped if I could have gotten this for around $20k. Private party and in no hurry to sell, so no doing. This is the first one with the equipment I'm looking for in several months so I'm definitely a little impatient.

Let me ask about the extended warranty. Does the coverage as well as the price differ once the factory warranty expires? Sorry, I should do a little more searching here. I've see a Platinum warranty talked about in this forum in the low $800 range. Does the truck need to be under the original 3 year, 36000 mile warranty to get that price? If so, does the cost simply go up once the factory warranty expires or does the coverage change as well?

If you buy a certified 4Runner from a dealer it will have the 7yr/100K which is the platinum zero deductible. I believe that it is recommended to purchase an extended warranty before 36K. we got ours here for $835.00 from Molle Toyota.
