One awesome feature of the Entune/Navi package

One thing I discovered recently with the Entune Navi package on my '16 T4RTE is the ability to overlay the current weather map over my GPS navigation (with phone connected). Combine that with an active traffic map, and it's a dynamic perspective I've never experienced before.

This might be common knowledge to you guys, but for someone that went from a car bought in 2004 to a 2016 T4R, it blows me away they've come this far with modern navi systems.

I agree, it is awesome. The ability to customize the POI display to certain brands is nice too. For instance, if you happen to love Sonic Drive-In you can set it to show Sonics on the map at POI scale.

I have mine set to show gas stations, ATMS, Hospitals, Sonic and WalMarts.

I think this is the first positive comment I have ever seen about the Entune/Navi package . I have a 2013 with Entune/Navi and have upgraded it to the latest firmware, but I still find it lacking and temperamental.

The feature you describe does actually sound cool, but is not available with my version.

I've also not had any of the voice activation issues that people seem to have. It's actually pretty accurate for me.

At first the voice recognition feature didn't seem to understand me at all. It treated me like I was from Brooklyn or something...oh wait, I am.

So, I went through the whole advanced voice recognition setup and it worked fine for a while...but apparently it thinks I'm speaking Brooklynese again last time I tried it. :argue:

Interesting. I didn't train mine until last night (only because I discovered I could when I was playing around with the features), but I've been using the VA since I got the T4R last month without much issue even without setting it up.

I haven't really taxed it much (like asking it to "make me a sandwich" or something), so maybe my expectations for what it should be able to do are lower.

Nope...my expectations were pretty darn low. It had a hard time with my asking it to call or phone "home". Both ways were problematic.

Perhaps I should have asked if it had any Grey Poupon...:infidel:

It's delayed up to 15 minutes though, for fast moving storms it's something to think about

here is a pic i took racing a line of bad storms home so my dog didn't freak out


Do you need to be connected for a phone though for this? I thought it got this through HD radio (it has the HD logo on the screen)

It draws from the weather channel, so I'd expect some sort of data connection to exist somewhere. I could be wrong, though. Yesterday was the first time I'd seen the option and my phone was bluetoothed, so I just assumed it pulled down the maps over my device.

I just confirmed a few things:

With phone disconnected

1. Went to Apps -> Weather
2. Got a "Downloading data. Please Wait.." screen that came up temporarily.
3. It redirected me back to Apps.
4. Waited a minute to pick up an HD radio signal and tried again. Same effect.

With phone connected

1. Went to Apps -> Weather
2. This time it immediately went to the Weather menu with different options.
3. I could load the local weather as well as the weather maps from the Weather Channel.

I noticed it has an HD symbol as well, so I'm not sure if it requires a combination of phone and HD signal to work or what.

If you don't get an HD signal they won't work. I really don't know what an HD signal is though.

I really like the Entune as well. I'm fortunate I guess as I have not experienced any problems with mine yet, aside from not displaying text messages, despite all the setting checks and rechecks. But, that really is no big deal to me. Compared to my wifes JGC Overland, the Entune setup is far and away superior to the Nav sys in hers.

I've disabled text message displays for obvious reasons (crazy friends and an easily offended wife), but I've noticed the email notifications are a little slow to be presented.

I chalk that up to the bluetooth connectivity and my phone going dormant on occasion. If I unlock my phone, email notifications will show up, so I don't think it's anything to do with Entune not working properly.
