Okay, I started this thread, maybe It's time to end it. I purchased a 2005 SR5 V6 Silver on Friday, 12/31/04 30 g's out the door. All the usual options, moonroof, spoiler, etc. Here are my reasons I chose the V6: Better gas milage, performance-wise not that big of a difference for 95% of daily driving, very little towing and the big thing is the option of 2 or 4 wheel drive. Maybe it's just me, but I like the handling of the vehicle better in 2wheel drive than 4 wheel. Please don't ask me to elaborate on the 2 vs. 4 wheel, it just seems the vehicle is a bit more responsive in 2 wheel rather than 4 wheel. Just my humble opinion. Got to tell everyone, I agonized over this V6 or V8 decision for quite sometime, but I think I made the right decision. So far loving the 4R. What do I hate about it? I find myself parking in the last spot in parking lots, always looking outside to make sure no one is messing around the vehicle and majorly upset because today it got rained on. Thanks to all on this forum for the responses given on this thread. Wait a minute, there's somebody outside standing around my truck. Gotta go -----

Got my V8 yesterday, 2005-01-02. It had 2 miles on the ODO.


I tow a boat a few times a year. I may do more towing in the future.

I never drove the V6, so I can't comment on the differences. I think it would take more than a few test drives before you notice any. You'd probably have to own both.


I plan to keep it a long time. It will probably be the last vehicle I buy that runs on gas. So what the hel!, I got the V8. :

There isn't much difference if you're just driving it around the city/highway.

- The MPG looks better on the V6.
- V6 takes less oil per oil change
- 03,04 V6 has VVT-i
- V6 has shift-on-the-fly 4WD (requires more thinking)

- V8 engine seems quieter, smoother power
- 05 V8 now has VVT-i
- V8 has Full-time 4wd (no need to worry if its on or off)

Personally.. I would just get the V8. It has a proven engine that's used through the Lexus and Toyota line. V8 also has the "elevator"... aka air suspension.

This is through personal experience with driving both the V6 and V8 (mom has v6). I will be keeping my car for.... awhile. because.... "Today. Tomorrow. Toyota."
