He copied an already designed idea, isn't a vendor, and is pretending he figured out a special way to interrupt a simple circuit. There's two solenoids and as ground. It ain't rocket science.
Now it is a secret? There is no meaningful r&d here. Any highschool auto shop student could figure this out. It took me about 3 minutes to sort out what connectors are needed and the electrical components. That's because someone else had already shared the idea and the wiring diagram. And that's generally the idea of open source sharing of ideas.
I understand that some folks can't figure out how to wire in a relay. Some don't want to. And there's value in commercial products. What is a problem is using the product of open discussions and attempting to take credit and sell a commercial product - and mostly the attitude of refusing to share back to the community who provided the idea and the design. If other form members act like that, there's no more sharing of ideas and the tech goes away. If you want to be part of a community of shared ideas great. Don't be a freeloader. It's really that simple.

I agree, rather than sell it, he should really be doing a step by step write up process. At bare minimum, show us what parts to order and give us the option to purchase ourselves.
It's a sleezey way to make money on the forum.

Yup. The forum wouldn't be much with this kind of members.
(And the "secret" is that he's using one relay and combining signals for the two shutter valves into a single circuit. Probably doesn't know why Toyota uses two channels instead of one. It's not an accident - I would not combine them.)

You have no clue. You are approaching this like a smart ass know it all engineer who doesnt want to put in the work and just look at stupid prints and diagrams.
I put it the work. I ripped my harness apart to test each wire my damn self. I drove the many many miles of testing it hard in the desert abusing it sacrificing my hard earn money to develop the actual part that some of you guys apparently know how because you can read some schematic. I paid the dealer every week I drove it to scan my truck for codes.
To say there’s no meaningful R&D is just plain stupid. I even go as far as to putting laser temp reader on the system to Data Log. The trips to the dealer for specifically testing and checking for codes with their scanner. The trips to mom and pop auto shops to have them scan with their scanner. I’ve put in damn near 6k miles of testing it.
And not once did I take credit on coming up with this. The idea was their. I just wanted it and since no one has actually done it. I’ll take credit for putting the my version of the product out because it’s definitely not what you did. Or I mean talk about [emoji2359][emoji1787].

I would love to see this implemented in one of the rocker switch positions on the dash, either where the party-mode button would be for vehicles that don't have it, or on the other side in one of the open switch positions. The switches themselves are readily available from many places online, though I'm not sure what style switch is required for this application. It would be really cool to have some covers 3D-Printed that actually say "KDSS Off" with the default backlighting from the switch. Perhaps someone could make a recommendation on whether the standard switches are appropriate, and how to do the install using the "no switch included" option from Blackgate when they are available?

There are a finite set of alternatives to interrupt a circuit. If you've discovered a new one - it's nobel prize time! If not - you've either interrupted the positive signal or the ground wire on pin 4. If the ground wire also provides stray current discharge, disconnecting it is not a great idea because of the dissimilar metals.
It's great that you drove it around for a while. Other members have done this for multiple years and reported back. And yeah- they also wired in dash switches. I guess they didn't spend $25 to have CH4x4 make custom switch covers. Maybe that's new for this particular switch.
You could probably skip the dealer trips with a techstream setup. I think almost all of us who are modifying our vehicles have a OBD code reader and most of us also have Techstream at home.
The problem is not selling a product. Plenty of people would buy a product to save the effort to do it themselves. The problem is being a freeloader and this stupid game of "I came up with something new but it's a secret." No. You didn't. And even if you did - the whole fawking point of these these threads is to share that type of information.

Sweet! I am one of those people who will sometimes prioritize time over money, and will gladly pay you for the "plug and play" aspect of this mod, though I greatly appreciate open source information. Coming from a diesel KJ Jeep Liberty, there was a HUGE source of DIY information on LostJeeps.com, and several vendors who made kits available for people like me using that information. It seemed to work well for them, but you do you and keep up the good work!

But in short, freeloader ? I could have gotten the diagram from any shop. Literally any good auto mechanic can pull it up for me which that’s where I got my prints. But f the prints. I actually tested each wire. And no the ground wire doesn’t provide stray current discharge [emoji51][emoji1420].

Could be wrong but I think they got rid of it for the 2014+ models. Mine was a blank spot so I installed my camera switch there.
That’s all I can think anytime I see posts about disabling or removing it. Why would you spend an extra $1,800 when it’s much easier to find a 4Runner without KDSS than with it.
However, reading posts by adults who don’t know basic grammar and the difference between there, their, and they’re is much worse.
Are you priding yourself on wasting a large amount of time by ignoring wiring diagrams and trying to reinvent the wheel? Do you work for the government?
Um I used the wiring diagram. That’s what I referred to. I was referring to jet boy saying I free loaded. Not even sure what he meant by that. I think he was implying I took the schematic from this thread and free loaded lol. I actually got the diagram from my Toyota tech buddy. As well as a local mechanic shop near me.
I’m saying I actually testing( each wire , referring to wire diagram) with meter etc versus just talking about it. No I don’t work for the government. They work for me [emoji1417].
