i have no problem with removing the gear from my 1st gen. it's got a rear gate, same as all the others, and my chit is all in the cargo area, not in the rear seat area. more room in the cargo space than my subaru had, too, which is nice.

When mine's topless - six months out of the year - I just stand on a rear tire to fish stuff out. Quite effective.

that's how i get stuff out of the back of my cj. i have no plans to remove the top in my runner.
