Only want to display audio on my JBL/NAV

I have a 2008 Limited. JBL and Nav. I hate the Nav. It has an awful UI, display, etc. I use my iPhone for directions anyway. To that end, I'd rather the screen ONLY display audio features, controls, presets. Does anyone know how to KEEP the screen displaying Audio stuff, and not go back to the map? The instruction manual says to press the Audio button at bottom left. I have done that. Audio comes up, but after a few minutes, it flips back to the map. Plus when I turn off the car and restart the map is displayed as well. I welcome any advice and my apologies if I am not writing this post in the right spot.
