Open diff or ?

Almost 100% positive I don't have an aftermarket limited slip installed by PO but thought it was odd I was getting spin on both wheels at times.

Just messing around in the sand today in 2WD. Any chance a previous owner installed a limited slip? No way of knowing without pulling the diff I guess.

There's a chance that a limited slip is in it just like there's a chance that each side had near equal traction leading to equal power going to either side of an open diff.

its definitely open, you can see several times one side is spitting dirt and the other side is stopped. part of it is the momentum of the tires is keeping both spinning.

an absolute positive way to check if you have any kind of 3rd member would be to jack up the rear axle, both tires off the ground.

put the trans is park, and block the tires...

the trans will keep the drive shaft from spinning, so when you spin one tire, the other tire should spin too... the direction will tell you what you have... oposite and it's open, if it doesn't spin and wants to go same direction, it's limited slip/locked. (you could put the trans in N and the tires should spin together... but safety first)

I have a feeling it's open, and it's weight of the vehicle that was shifting for it to spin both...

That's exactly what a limited slip with worn clutches will do.
