Open the tailgate?

I have an 86 4runner that was given to me with the engine dismantled to replace blown headgasket.Anyway I was trying to figure out how to open the tailgate? I noticed the windo is electric...does the window have to be down for the gate to open? dumb question I know but I am not familiar with this truck.Thanks

Yeah Window has to be down to open tailgate

but be careful I've come to find out in a shot time span that most first Gen. Runners window motors have stripped gears so that they dont' roll up and down by themselves.

Yes the window must be down to put the tailgate down.
