Opinions on this '94 4runner?

Just nit-picking...

OME does not make an 8" lift...so...? looks like a trail gear front lift (at least the hanger)

My main concern would be the rear suspension. The stock 4runner 4 link is great, but once lifted that high, it throws the link geometry to poop.

And thats most defiantly NOT a 94 land cruiser front axle. Its a '85 mini truck axle.

It doesnt have a steering rack, it has a pump and box. Steering racks are for rack and pinion, found on the 3rd gen 4runner.

That front bumper is off a pickup, not a 4runner.

The compression test..he says all cyl within 10lbs... of what? Stock? Each other?

And lastly, he has Grizzly yukon 4.88s listed with lockers in parenthesis, To me, he is calling the 4.88s lockers. I would just ask (or youll feel it in a test drive) that it really has lockers in it and hes not calling the gears lockers.

If you drive in the snow, you might want selectable lockers, and driving on snowy roads with a front locker is scary!

Not too bad for the price though, looks really clean.

As much as I wanted to tear it apart and post nasty things...Thats a f*n sweet 4runner!
if I had the extra coin laying around, I'd love to have it :lmao:

why is he hiding the front drivers seat in the pics though... looks to have some ugly seat cover or something.

body looks pretty good... that seat is probably worn like every 4runner seat out there: torn through on the side next to the door.

Thanks for the replies!!! You guys are helping me thanks!

I'm assuming that would be bad. Not too savvy when it comes to big vehicles and lifts/suspension.

Bad again?

I'm assuming he's saying it has Grizzly Lockers and the gearing itself is 4.88?

Not bad at all. Its the most common axle to swap in, and plenty strong. Its just not a land cruiser axle, which are worth more because they are bigger/stronger/better.

It says it needs front breaks... helps when buying parts to know what you really have.

Yukon makes lockers and gears, so hopefully they are 4.88s with lockers.

My concerns would be wondering why someone wants to get rid of a vehicle they just swapped out both tranny and T-case, plus so many other new parts just a few miles ago. The manual transmission and the transfer case in those rigs are considered nearly bulletproof, so why the replacements, and why dump it so soon after fixing whatever was wrong? Yeah, it's great getting new parts, but when someone sells immediately afterwards, it's often because they had lots of issues with the rig, and are sick of dealing with it. I'm also wondering about the suspension--as Hyde mentioned, OME doesn't make what is claimed; in fact, they are strong proponents of small lifts, not some 8" monster lift. Trail-Gear makes a solid axle kit, but none of their lifts are taller than 5" either. This owner doesn't even seem to know what's all on his own rig, like he recently got it on the cheap, slapped some stuff in it, and is trying to flip it. I'm not saying it's a dud, but I'd definitely approach it with a cautious eye.

Well I commented on that to him. He claims he wants an M3 again because he sold his to fund this build, and all of his friends sold their wheelers. He says he found an M3 he wants so hes trying to get rid of this. Ill mention the issues with the lift to him and see if its a solid rig or hes trying to screw someone over.

Bad thing is i know very little about toyotas or 4runners and what i should be looking for.

He says all the recent stuff has been professionally done, receipts and all, and warranties according to him.

Well hes going to tell you its solid, hes trying to sell it to you.

It might be lifted 8" over stock, but its not a 8"lift. Looks like 4-5" springs, and the solid axle alone will net you about 3"

Ask him for more detailed pics of the rear suspension...

Thing is, he wants almost $9k for a 2nd gen. Built or not, I wouldn't do it. Take your $9k and buy a nice 3rd gen for $4k to $5k and use the rest for lift and tires. You can probably find a 3rd gen that already has the e-lockers front and back.

Buying someone elses project can be tricky. If I had $9k lying around I would not spend it on this rig.

Here are the rear suspension pics.

Even in oregon its not worth that much, plus with how much he doesnt know about the "custom" stuff makes me gun shy on the engine as well. If you want a Toyota look out in the sandy/gresham area or up in battleground and vancouver. As you know they are everywhere. Hell a few of my builds are up there somewhere. I cant be certain but i believe a guy named cole used to own that very rig.

Its not a bad rig, but the rear suspension is ****ed. The trailing arms are almost maxed out just sitting there. It would need a chevy 63 leaf conversion to make it right.

Go talk to Toyota man off of columbia off of 205. He may have some leads on some rigs for sale too.

anyone else notice the coil spring separators in the coils? That rear suspension is ****ed the **** up!

Well I was hoping to talk him down to around $7k ish if I was gonna get it. But after you guys have seen it, I think I'll pass and keep looking. I look at alot of jeeps and toyotas but they're always beat to s**t. Thats why I'd spend so much as it is to try and get something in good condition, even though I may end up wheeling it a bit but atleast I know what I'd do to it.

WTF is up with that brake line? I would be afraid to drive that thing with the fear of the brake lines on the rear axle ripping off! Too much shady information and work on this thing. I would back off like you suggested.

I still think it's a sweet 4runner. Rear leaf spring conversion & new brake lines and you will have an awesome DD & a mean trail rig. Inspect it with a fine tooth comb and talk him down on the price. SAS/gears/locker already done...
wouldn't take much to finish this project
