OPOR vs. Fabtech rails

I know, search and I have.

Long story short, switched my rigid running board for the OPOR and I love the look. BUT....As I have read in many threads the OPOR does not stick out as far as some other sliders and they do not. In fact they kind of make it more difficult to enter the t4r. My wife wants them gone and has some valid points, most of my off road adventures are camping or easy trails that a stocker could handle.

So, with the OPOR not sticking out enough to be a step and not wanting to go back to the rigid's, is fabtech a good option. She does need the step and not seeing them in person, are these better than the stock rigids? I think they look good but how much clearance am I losing? Lastly, are the fabtech's frame mount?

I don't know much about the fabtechs, but look into Shrockworks, C4, and Hefty Fab. All of those will give you about the best step you could hope for out of true slider.

As an aside I ended up replacing my rigid running boards with RCI sliders with bump out (no tread plate) and they have been just as useful of a step as the running boards were (wife approved enough to sell the rigid's).
 
Subscribed. Going through the same thought process now and would rather get it right the first time. Sucks that OPOR doesnt have enough step. Its one of the few that work well with the LE rockers. :Cry:
 
they are designed that way for a reason, there is a step portion in the back for gaining access to the roof ect, but the main body of them is kept close so that they do not cause such a problem getting in and out of the vehicle -meaning they dont rub the back of your legs and get mud and dirt all over your pants, or put runs in your wifes nylons... they are arguably the strongest sliders out there and i bet one of only a couple that are actually engineered... they do there job, they protect the vehicle body from both intrusions from rocks ect below as well as help with side impact(not what it was designed to do, but a nice added benefit) are there other sliders out there that stick out further, yes, but from my experience and use of both OPOR and other brands they are the best compromise of both sides. they dont grab your pants like others do resulting in you actually having to "hop" in or out. my wife 5'1" actually likes them much more than my others. and wants me to replace my other set with some OPOR (i will be doing a custom install of some OPOR sliders on my 3rd gen as i too want them on there), and i even "boat sided" my other sliders up as much and as close as i could get them to the body. its still not even close or as nice.

If I had a newer truck those C4 would be my choice, I love the step on my shrockworks and my 5'2" wife approves, but I do catch rocks a little easier.

That's a different story all together. Then it's as simple as do you want a nice set of steps that are attached to your rocker panels or a set of sliders that can function as steps but are not dedicated in that way but are attached to your frame and offer protection.

The nfabs will not offer protection off road and can be a damage multiplier, but work great as steps.

Correct. I actually took my NFabs off about a month ago once I realized that I was not comfortable using then off-road over certain terrain. Once I sell them I'm going to get sliders, which I should have done in the first place.

However, if your just looking for a step they are nice and I enjoyed them for that purpose.

Where are you located??? I may be up for a swap if something can be worked out. Depending on the condition, etc.
