Optima batteries

Got a few questions..

is been almost 7 years since I had my battery changed out..

I can probably squeeze a little bit more out of the die hard but I rather be safe and just replace it.

I have been looking at the optima ones... but I don't know if I should go for the red top or the yellow ones..

I did looked at the blue optima while I was at Costco today and they wanted like $154 for it..

I was wondering where I can pick one up...

optimas are overrated, i have several of them, and if they set for awhile, they lose their charge, if an optima ever loses its charge, they are just a boat anchor. If you are looking for a dry cell battery, look at the Hawker Odyssey battery, they are much better. If you dont really care about a dry cell battery, just go with a nice battery from Sears, or any of the auto parts stores.
 
I agree, for the price of one optima battery I can buy two decent car batteries. And if I am going to spend the money, I would rather have a dual battery setup.

these are my batteries of choice for every vehicle i own, i also agree the optimas are over rated and the quality has gone down since they became big, like 3-4 years ago there were rashes of reports of people having their batteries becoming boat anchors (lol) far faster then what should be and also note what he was saying about keeping them charged, i have heard alot of that as well,
this is all conjecture on my part having never owned one, but after alot of reading i decided to purchase from the Hawker Odyssey battery line instead and have never had a problem and couldn't be happier

you should also note they have a deep cycle sealed battery that you can fit two of in the stock location for a dual battery set up, i'm currently running 2 in my camper one as a starting battery and one as a reserve.aux for lights,stove,microwave and the rest.

i pulled it and dropped it in the runner to see if it would fit, i'm 80% sure you can fit 2 of them there.
 
I'm surprised you only got 2 or 3 years on your OEM Panasonic; most of us got six to eight years on those bad boys. My Panasonic died in late '06 (I also have a '99) and the buzz in here and elsewhere was 100% positive on the Optima's and that's what I bought. Since then, production was moved to Mexico and the buzz moved South as fast as the factory did. My (one of the last) US built Optima weathered a 100% discharge (door not closed for a week) and came back fine.

Based on what I have read since '06, I would not buy another one.

I have a Die Hard Platinum group 65 primary battery and a Vision X secondary. I would highy recommend the Die Hard. Odyssey makes better batteries then Optima.
 
Well, I just put an Optima Yellow Top in mine during a stereo install. I'm looking forward to clean terminals, and hopefully won't have to replace it for several years. I guess time will tell.

Factory Panasonic lasted 7 years in my '05 runner. Replaced it just cause I felt it was time. Against better judgement went with optima yellow top - hoping I'd get a good one, Auto Zone had them for a great price. First one didn't make it much more than a month - auto zone replaced free of charge after they / I did a half hour diagnostic on my car to make sure there was no excessive draw. Then I got to walk around the shop for another hour while they tested the battery. Second one has made it 6 months, now it is weak and unreliable too. Time to find a good book and bring it in again. What junk. Don't buy one!

I had this same issue about a month ago. After consulting everyone hear and taking into account budget and all I went with the DieHard Platinum. Costco has cheap Batts but there will be none around me soon so I passed on them. So like I said, there is a Sears all over the country. 4 years,100 month is very nice!

Check it out. If he is doing this stuff with is batteries then I want the one he has.
I currently have a optima red top. The first one died three months after I purchased it. After a argument with the guy at the auto parts store a quick call to corporate landed me a new battery. Keeping my fingers crossed. Years ago a optima yellow top lasted 8 hard abused years in my 98 Sierra.

I disagree, my first 4runner had one from the day I bought it, then 4 years later I added a winch and lights to my rig, that optima lasted longer then the rig, it was still going strong when the rig was totaled years later.
When I got the 04, I added a yellow top, that was 3 years ago, and just this week I left the key on, over night, yeppers drained the yellow top, got my neighbor to jump me, took all of 1 min. ran 6 blocks to the store and havent had any issues since, I even left my CB on today while shopping at a surplus store. she started right up.
When I get another car, Optima will be the battery that goes in it. :rockon:
Dont get me wrong, Ive read of some having issues with theirs, but what mass produced item doesnt have an occassional issue?
 
has it been three years since I made this thread? lol..

anyways.. the DieHard Gold is holding up.. but when that goes, I'm going to replace it with the Platinum series..
 
i just swapped out my optima red top of 5 years to a die hard platinum. never been happier.wont be going back to an optima because they are built like junk now. plus it was giving my new dc power alt problems.
 
I like my Red Top and no issues with it. Also couldn't pass up a deal from my shop's Interstate Battery guy. Other than I'm looking into their new line of Batteries.
 
I appreciate all the input here. My original '04 Panasonic finally bit the dust today. Stopping by my local Sears the pickup the DieHard Platinum after work.
